or link me to some threads since i'm sure this is a conversations had previously :-)
what are your favorite brands? preferably in the $10 and less category. i like really pigmented colours, not so much the translucent kinds.
i've always used cheap cheap cheap polish for my toes, but have never had luck with painting my fingernails well. i bought some express (like the store) polish at winners on clearance and what a difference! i didn't expect that much from it, but it goes on well, doesn't clump and dry weird, so i'm guessing buying slightly nicer polish is the answer. i bought a bottle of essie yesterday (turquoise and caicos, my favorite colour!), but wasn't super impressed with it. it was hard to get even. for $9 i expected more.
I really like OPI nail polishes compared to Essie. I've found that most OPI polishes are pigmented whereas I have to use at least 3 coats of many of my Essie colors. I have no idea if this is just a coincidence with the colors I pick out. If you have an Ulta near you then you can use their $3.50 off of $10 purchase if you get 2 bottles. After I started purchasing Essie and OPI, I pretty much stopped purchasing cheaper polishes.

I had the same experience with Essie. OPI seems to have better coverage. Zoya is really nice too. Julep is overpriced and I'm too poor for Deborah Lippman or butter london.
I just bought the OPI Euro Centrale mini collection. I might end up buying a full size bottle of Can't Find My Czechbook I love the color so much. The purpleish You're Such a BudaPest is a keeper too.
thanks for the recs! we have a sephora (that i've never stepped foot in) here... do they sell nail polish? we don't have an ulta in my city; i'm not sure if we have them in canada at all.
i have three coats of essie on now and i can still see through it in spots. and because it took so much it didn't cure well overall. i'll see if i can find OPI. i'm not sure what our drugstores have in stock. i've only become obsessed with nail polish in the last 6 weeks and i've been happy with the few bottles i picked up at winners, but now i need more. MORE NAIL POLISH!
also, does any other brand have a colour similar to turquoise and caicos? because i need the mint green right now. i seriously contemplated buying a gallon of paint for my bedroom and having it colour matched to the essie bottle
For me, Essie works well and OPI is spotty and chips like crazy. I also like Zoya and Orly.
I have found that a good top coat will make even cheaper polishes last longer and not chip. I have used Schete Vite before and am now using Nails Inc Kensington Caviar top coat (I got it from Sephora). It makes your polish dry super quick (you put it on when your polish is still wet) and no chips! Love it.
Zoya Bevin is a good mint color, but I don't think it is as blue as the Essie color...
I googled and found that China Glaze has a similar color called Audrey
I love Audrey! I wear it a lot. China Glaze works pretty well for me. I like OPI as well. I hate Julep, it doesn't work for me at all. Essie is just okay. I really like Zoya.
My favorites are Zoya and Essie. I agree with Kara - a good top coat is just as important, and the Nails Inc caviar is my favorite too (not their new gel top coat). Seche Vite is very popular, but I think you either love it or hate it. I hate it, mostly because of the shrinkage.
I've found some good Essie polish at TJ Maxx or Marshall's for $3.99, otherwise I usually just get it at Target.
I bought a bunch of Juleps and Zoyas the last time the sale posts went around and really like the Juleps. I'm surprised to see all the negative reviews of it here.
I just tried Julep yesterday and the pigmentation was awful. Maybe it was just the color, though.
Did you ever find anything? I was in Ulta today and they had a whole display of turquoise and teal nail polishes. The Essie one you posted about was included. I saw that Ulta brand has a color almost identical to Essie's.
I like the OPI brush by far the best. I just bought my first Zoya--it chipped a little quicker than I thought it should. I don't like the Essie brush at all--it seems unnecessarily hard to apply.
I also really like the Sally Hanson Complete Salon Manicure polish. Especially the darker colors are nicely saturated.
