I absolutely agree about the smaller meals. I have found that if I go more than 4-5 hours without eating, I can feel/taste my stomach acid and I start to get really achy. Along with that, the smaller portions tend to settle better. I order from the kids menu when I can because the portions tend to be pretty perfect for me. I tend to get side-eyed at sit down restaurants, but we don't go to them often so I don't let it bother me. Haha.
do what works for you! if you felt great that is the goal, right? I'm just beyond jealous you can eat a burger, fries, potato chips, and coffee in the same day and still feel good--that could give a person with a "normal" stomach a tummy ache. I'm seriously green with envy lol.
for lower sugar smoothies I do: 1. overripe banana, 3/4 c unsweetened original almond milk, ice, cinnamon (146 cal, 14g sugar, 2g fat, 2g protein) 2. 200g watermelon (1/4 or 1/5 of a small melon) , seeds removed, 1/2 TB lime juice, 1/2 tsp lemon juice, ice (66 cal, 8g sugar 0g fat, 4g protein)
I also bought some frozen mango slices from TJ's today and I plan on mixing that with plain organic greek yogurt w/ live cultures and some ice. fruit is sweet enough on its own that you don't have to add sweeteners, and most smoothie places will. sugar increases inflammation (huge issue with IBD so I've been trying to watch it after my homemade rice krispie binge of last week, lol).
re: small, frequent meals I totally agree. my GI made it very clear that I'm not allowed to eat 3 meals a day. I try to do 5-6 and keep them very light. also chew your food thoroughly - it creates more surface area for enzymes to digest your food.
Thanks Tacom! Funny thing is MFP said I still needed 24 grams of fat! That just seems like so much! But I really do avoid fat daily, and was even more shocked that the smoothie didn't put me closer to what I needed in carbs for the day. I had 40 grams of carbs left by 4 or 5pm. That burger was gloriously good! I haven't had one since New Years, that I remember. I'm sure if you did a grilled one at home with less fatty meat you could handle it?
The smoothie thing has become....a bit of an addiction (like 3X a week kind of thing) and pricey. I've come to find that soy milk is good on my stomach, but it needs to be blended into a smoothie for me to tolerate texture. I may just go buy a bunch of frozen berries and soy and blend it up :-) sounds tasty! I hate bananas unfortunately
I always thought the fat/sugar/carbs on MFP were maximums, so it's good that you weren't close to hitting those. I usually hit ~50% of my carbs allotted for the day, and that's with 2-3 servings of fruit (which I think is pushing it on sugar... )
I do want to try a grilled burger at home with either ground turkey or 95% lean beef. it's on my to-do list. fingers crossed it works!
smoothies are delicious. don't know if you're concerned about breast cancer/have a family history, but I swapped almond milk for soy milk because soy has been linked to infertility and increased cancer risk. I definitely recommend TJ's for frozen fruit/at home smoothies - they have a great selection and you can really play with it.
