For teacher appreciation day one of my students gave me a $25 gift card to target. My grandparents sent me $50 to khols for spring. My questions is do I get something fun or practical.
I pay my credit card in full each month so I am not carrying a balance there. However, my budget is very tight and I feel bad treating myself to something that isn't a need even though these were gifts.

Are any of your needs new clothes (or staples like underware, bras, or pajamas?) If so you could use the Target gift card for practical stuff and Kohls for clothes (not super fun, but at least it would be something for you specifically.)
I like that idea. Use the Target for stuff you need and Kohls for stuff you want.
I would actually do the opposite. I can never find anything for myself at Kohl's (clothes, shoes, etc.), but their home stuff can be decent, so I would use that GC on necessities like a new pan or small appliance, or get new hand towels for the bathrooms. Target I would use for some cute springy accessories for myself or for my house. Or some new Essie colors.
I used to avoid Kohl's, but have had really good luck finding good bras there, lately, so I'd stock up on new things. (Plus they were 50% off which didn't hurt...)
Target has much more 'fun' stuff IMO: I'd spend it on cute paper products and office supplies (hello cute binder clips! fun post it notes!) or fun nail polish.
I would buy all fun stuff. I need the devil emoticon!
agreed. gc are free money that you weren't budgeting anyway, so i'd spend it all on some fun stuff. maybe a new top or cheap summer sandals at target, some new barware or serving dishes from kohl's.

Is there something you'd like to splurge on at either place? A gift is the time to do it!! Both of those places have a good mix of items. What do you need to brighten your wardrobe that would also feel like a treat? Spending money in a fun way doesn't mean you can't get what you need.
