I just started watching "Orange is the New Black," a Netflix original series about a woman who goes to prison when her past relationship with a drug distributor comes back to haunt her. It's by the creator of "Weeds."
Safety Not Guaranteed - Quirky, cute, harmless little comedy with Aubrey Plaza, Mark Duplass and Nick from The New Girl
Friends with Kids - Mostly enjoyable romcom, written by the same chick that did Kissing Jessica Stein. Jon Hamm makes a few appearances. Swoon.
Shows - The League, Survivors, Pretty Little Liars, Dollhouse, Parenthood, Lost, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Friday Night Lights, Freaks & Geeks
I have been tearing through Gossip Girl. I don't know how I missed it when it aired but it is awesome. It's like 90210 in that it is about rich teenagers, except way better. IT's got fantastic campy goodness to it, kind of like the movie Clueless. I started it 2 weeks ago and I'm already halfway through season 3. Love it.
Yes, Gossip Girl is the best/worst. The last few seasons aren't very good, but the first 3 or 4 are so excellent that it's okay.
I've been watching Hart of Dixie lately and it's utter crap, but I love it.
Brookles you mentioned kissing Jessica stein which is one of my favorite movies in the history of, like, ever. I love you.
I recently watched Moon. Sci-fi/Thriller genre. Man lives on moon to do maintenance and such for space stations. Crazy shit starts happening. Bonus: Kevin Spacey voices a machine and is extremely creepy and awesome.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."

I'm currently watching Merlin, and its fantastic.
It's a show that gets better with each episode. The first season is kind of "meh". The second gets better. The third is great. I just finished watching the fourth, breathlessly.
It's a retelling of Arthurian legend, with Arthur and Merlin as young contemporaries. They're weird but cool with each other.
Magic's illegal, on pain of death, so Merlin has to be sneaky with the sorcery.
Arthur's father, King Uther, is played by Giles. He's kind of a paranoid, pompous ass. So, kind of perfect casting.
Gwenivere is a servant. But she and Arthur have the hottie totties for each other. Aaah, forbidden love.
There are lots of good looking Knights, being all brave and valiant and shit

I watched TLC's Extreme Cheapskates on Netflix last night, and I feel like I need someone else to watch it too so we can talk about it, because OMG WTF.
There are people dumpster diving for food and peeing in bottles to save money!

OOOH!
Just finished watching Neverland.
It's a Peter Pan origin story... didn't you always want to know how Peter, the Lost Boys, Hook, the Pirates, the Indians... how they all came to be in Neverland?!?!
Well, now you can!
It's pretty, it's lush, it's extremely well acted. It's fun, with pirates and swordfights...
United States of Tara is 3 seasons and stars Toni Collette and John Corbett. Toni Collette is a suburban housewife with a personality disorder (multiple personalities).
Raising Hope - sitcom about a white trash family whose son gets a felon pregnant. When she is executed, they end up raising the baby.
Has anyone mentioned the short series Top of the Lake? It's directed by Jane Campion and stars Elisabeth Moss from Mad Men. It's about a police inspector trying to find a missing girl in New Zealand. It's excellent, and the scenery made me want to plan a trip to NZ, like, yesterday.
I love that one too. We just picked up the second season on DVD since it was cheap and it's not on Netflix yet.
I really thought this thread was where I saw the Fall recommended but I don't see it now. The show is amazing but I don't know when the second season will be out. I don't know if I want to leave anyone else in this painful limbo by recommending it.
mominatrix your (old) recommendation is part of the reason why we finally watched Jeckyll a few months ago. We really enjoyed it but I still have a hard time taking Gina Bellman seriously. She will always be Jane from Coupling to me.
Someone tell me, would I like Always Sunny in Philadelphia if I like Arrested Development? I'm going to need a good comedy to fill the void when I finish AD.
I personally think Always Sunny in Philadelphia is hilarious, but I wouldn't say it's really anything like Arrested Development. I liked both though, FWIW.
The Departed is an awesome movie. I wasn't even a Leo DiCaprio fan before that movie, but OMG something about a Boston bad boy just does it for me. It's really good.

Folks who are interested in climate change:
I think I mentioned that I'm TA-ing a class on climate change this semester. The professor recommended that the class watch "Years of Living Dangerously" (it's on Netflix). I haven't started watching it yet, but apparently it won an Emmy for Outstanding Documentary.
