My 6 mo old Rat Terrier has a very sensitive stomach. His poop is very soft most of the time. He has been checked by a vet for parasites and such and is clear.
I am on a mission to find something that works for him. He is on Blue Buffalo Puppy Chicken and Brown Rice. I bought Innova for him last week (picked it by reading labels) and then researched it when I got home and found negative reviews and that it was owned by P&G. He likes it and it seemed to help, but I'm not comfortable continuing with it.
This past weekend I went to a local pet store that has higher end food (Orijen, Fromm, The Honest Kitchen, etc). I got some samples of those foods. So far I've tried The Honest Kitchen Thrive. He loves it. His evening meal is:
1/4 of what he would get in a day of the Honest Kitchen plus Blue Buffalo mixed in to make up the rest. I give him a spoonful of plain yogurt.
Breakfast is:
1/2 of a daily serving of Blue Buffalo with a tablespoon of pumpkin and a spoonful of plain yogurt.
Treats:
He gets a frozen treat in the morning that either has banana in it or pumpkin, yogurt and banana in it (if he gets the second treat, then I do not add pumpkin and yogurt to his breakfast).
He seems to be doing well with it so far. It's only been 3 days of this routine. I have a big bag of Blue Buffalo that I'd like to use up if possible. I'm debating if I should fully switch to THK exclusively or continue with what I've been doing.
Is what I'm giving him the right things? His vet recommended Science Diet, so I'm not going to consult with him on what I'm feeding him.
Sorry that was long. I'm overwhelmed with what is out there for pet food and every one that I research has negatives, of course.
Anyone have an opinion on Fromm or Orijen? I like that Fromm is made in Wisconsin since that means it's local for me, but if it's not a preferred food then that really doesn't matter as much.

If he has soft poo I would cut out the yogurt for now. I would probably try to go grain free and then stick to regular proteins b.c. they're lower in fat. If that doesn't sort it out, try switching his proteins to something novel like rabbit, venison or bison. Our dog has food allergies and switching his proteins has helped.
Also, keep an eye to make sure he isn't scooting his butt and doesn't develop an anal gland issue.

If he is doing better on the Innova, I wouldn't change. We feed Innova. They weren't always a P&G company - they bought them fairly recently with promises not to change the quality. We haven't noticed any issues with it yet.
