I must be one of the last people on the planet to not see Downton Abbey. I have heard a lot of hoopla about it, but never seen it. I have, however, discovered Call the Midwife on PBS. I LOVE it! It doesn't seem to be getting quite the attention that Downton Abbey is, though, which makes me sad. Anyone else looking forward to the Call the Midwife premiere Sunday?

I like this show too, but forgot that there was going to be a second season. Thanks for the reminder
The one weird thing about this show is the music. Sometimes it just doesn't seem appropriate for the scene - like something really upbeat while people are dying.

I guess I hadn't noticed the music thing. I will have to pay better attention. I DVR'ed the first episode of season 2 and haven't quite finished season 1 yet. I am savoring them since the seasons are so short.
Thank you for mentioning this show. I had never heard of it and watched season 1 on PBS.com last week and I have season 2 DVRing! I really like this show!
Love that show! I watched Season 2 through ITV. I don't have the patience to wait for PBS.
I did too! I really enjoyed this season, even more than season 1. I am reading the second book right now. I have realized they took all 3 books and kind of blended a bunch of characters. When I watched season 1 and read the first book I thought it was pretty true to the text with a few new stories thrown in, but they came from the other books.

I think that's what I like. The contrast is jarring, and it makes me think about it. Like Jenny's voiceovers about how all babies are wanted, a midwife is always there, people have clean homes. What we perceive to be a golden era (look at how many people in the States want to hearken back to "perfect" 50s) was only that for a select few. The bubblegum pop music didn't actually reflect peoples lives.

I agree with all this. Also I think it emphasizes the contrast of what should be a happy event turning tragic.
