I just got a quote from a handyman here who does painting. He usually charges 90 cents per square foot if you supply your own paint, and 97 cents if he supplies the paint. I assume it would be extra to remove the wall paper but I have no clue how much extra.
I don't know if that is typical or what it would cost where you are at. I'd ask around for some recommendations of people who do painting and see if you can get them to come over and do an estimate.

I've never paid anyone to remove wallpaper.... my Mom had that done a few years back and the quotes were astronomical, so she removed it and then had the painters sand and paint. It's really easy to do if you buy one of those plastic scoring tools (pokes holes in the paper) and paint on soapy water. After is sets for a while the wallpaper just starts sliding off the wall on its own.
Will you update if you do find quotes? I'm curious now if her painters were in line with the rest of the industry...

I would definitely pay someone to do it. It's not always as easy as PP said. I tried to DIY in our bathroom and majorly messed up the drywall. Don't know how much it would cost where you are, but it'd probably be worth it not to deal with the aggravation.
Removing wall paper was terrible in our old house. It took me two hours to remove a one foot section of boarder. We finally bought a steamer from Lowes for $50 and it was the most magical machine. Since everyroom in the house had wallpaper (and then border on top of it) it was totally worth the money.
I have no idea. I just got my first painting quote, and while this won't help you at. all. because it is for exterior, I thought I would share anyways. It will cost 2k to have our whole house painted, materials and all. I am thinking that that is actually not too bad...but I don't know. It just seems like a lot of work. I obviously don't want to do it. LOL.
The guy also quoted an additional $450 to paint the interior of our garage. That included doing all the cabinent work, which is pretty significant...as much as in a kitchen at least. I always thought work like this would be more money.
