LLL duuuude, I never can teach about the pyramids without thinking of that. And if I'm teaching 4 sections, at least one or two will have someone ask me if I've seen it.
I'm going to be the Debbie Downer and tsk tsk anyone who would do this (and that obviously did it).
The pictures are amazing, yes, but I can't help but feel disappointed at the disrespect for the sanctity of ART. IT MUST BE PROTECTED, y'all know what happened to Jesus already.
Yes, exactly. I've already grabbed them from the website to put in my powerpoints.
At the university, I can tell them that the Pyramid of Khufu is as big as their core campus and the have a concept of how big that is, but not at the community college. They aren't the purest images, but still they make me dizzy!
Did anyone read the comments? I didn't realize there were people who thought the pyramids were not built by the Egyptians, but by some earlier, advanced civilization. I'm kind of *-) right now.

You don't treat historical and cultural treasures like a base jump expedition. It's like walking up to the Mona Lisa and trying to poke her in the eye.
These structures have stood for thousands of years. Think how far back that is-think of what life was like back then-there is so much we don't know-have some respect. (Former anthropology major here).

I agree. I'll still use the pictures, because I use Carter's pictures and show the Parthenon sculptures as displayed at the British Museum, but I will absolutely discuss the means by which things are collected and recorded. It's always a fun discussion to have, in fact, I think I might have to spring this on my appreciation class next week- once a week classes are hard to keep engaged, I'm afraid.

This will definitely spark fantastic conversation in class! We used to have lively discussions back in my anthro/archaeology theory classes and we would wind up using the whole class time debating back and forth.
Sigh...oh the good old days when I was all academic and had a zest for academia.

I'm so conflicted. i love them for their badass mischief and the cool pictures.... but I want to protect the pyramids too. It's a heavier version of a public art discussion. How much should public art be left to the public?
I'd still do it. [glaring balefully from under beetled brows]
I really do want to see these things. they are freaking amazing. I just don't think climbing on top of them is any worse than walking through them, which millions of people have done. NO, I would not sneak up them, I would follow the rules. But still.
My wine buzz made this read "sneak up on them." Which is fucking hilarious.
I was thinking that too. I find people being reckless around precious history appealing. What if they caused serious damage?
The erosion picture? Damage is happening. One day, it will just exist in these pictures. Irony.
At least some of the damage is natural considering their age. I just think people helping the process along are complete, utter, morons. I love art, and it pisses me off when people fuck it up. Like when people use flashes at The Louvre, right beside signs that say no flash! Fuck!!
