My skin is fairly breakout prone. A good diet and eliminating caffeine had reduced it to the occasional pimple, but for whatever reason right now my face is breaking out like crazy. I have VERY sensitive skin so I can't use most traditional acne remedies. Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash Redness Soothing Cleanser irritated my skin like crazy. Acne Free 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide wash makes my skin rough and lizardy. And Differin seemed to make things worse, not better.
Anyone have any product recommendations for sensitive, acne-prone skin? Or should I just go see a dermatologist? My last derm didn't really have a solution other than "use Differin every other day", so I don't have a lot of hope.
I would try another dermatologist. Diet has definitely made a difference, but I have also been using a product called "Epiduo" every other day. It's a mix of benzoyl peroxide and adapalene. I just googled it and it looks like adapelene is in Differin, too. I really can't use this stuff every day, my face gets red and itchy. But I can tolerate every other or every third day.
I have been using thermal-water based cleansers like those by La Roche-Posay and Avene, nothing that has any kind of acne medication in the product. I tried Cetaphil for a while, but it made me break out more.
Best stuff ever. I am a total convert. I do use a DUAC prescription cream as a spot treatment, but I use it rarely now. I have hormonal/cystic acne for reference. Since I have oily skin I use the PC akin balancing moisture gel, and not the benzoyl peroxide cream (since DUAC also has BP). I did use it for awhile and really like it, but I don't need two products that do the same.
I really like the extra strength toner though...very soothing. I also use the cleanser.
I've tried other prescription acne creams and it never worked well.
Carrots, is this stuff different than Proactiv? I've heard you rave about Paula's Choice before, so I know you believe in it. I would like to try something, but am skeptical about this. Have you used Proactiv before? How is this different?
I wash my face every day using clarisonic and simple foaming face wash (I use origins checks and balances), non-comedogenic serum first (caudalie right now, but I don't love it), use duac (prescription) on my chin and forehead once a day, bare essentials blemish therapy on spots (sulfur 3%), then a non comedogenic moisturizer, a peel with alpha and beta hydroxy acids twice a week (using exfolikate). I know it sounds like a lot, but I went from multiple zits a day to none. I had to figure out what worked for my skin, so this process took forever.
