I didn't want to because I had heard of the arsenic thing, but her pedi recommended it. She's only had it a few times and isn't really interested in it. After the third or fourth time giving it to her, I moved on to avocados and am just going to do solids from now on I think.

I did about 3 times. Once she seemed to have the tongue thing down, I said screw it and just moved on to veggies. We've been doing that for about 3 weeks now. I'm just starting fruits this week.
oh and I don't make my own baby food. Gerber 1st foods so I'm probably poisioning mine too.
We skipped rice cereal. We did oatmeal, sweet potato and fruits. I did mixed a little rice cereal with the food at first so the taste wasn't as strong.
We aren't there yet but we plan to skip. I keep hearing there isn't any nutritional value in it so I didn't see a point. I don't know much about the arsenic issue. Is it just trace amounts?
Yes, DD is 5 now but I bought a box of rice cereal, oatmeal cereal, and barley cereal when we started solids. I don't think I opened the barely one because she blew past the cereal phase so fast.
I always felt guilty and useless about something at that age. It really gets better. A lot better.

The "baby" is now 5 and all is good
She never liked the taste of plain cereal, so I always mixed in a tablespoon of applesauce, pears, or other fruit once I knew she was fine to eat that particular fruit. We did not stay on cereal for a long time--more of a tansitional food to smashed food.
Like the pp, I did cereal at breakfast and cereal at night for a full belly/good sleep.

We gave her rice cereal for a couple weeks then switched to oatmeal, which she liked better, and I felt better about. She is 2 and she still eats it. I add flax or chia seeds to it.
