Took L to a gymnastics-type class for the first time this morning. There was a pit of big squishy blocks they could jump in to. The mom before me hopped right in with her kid and then got back out, nbd.
So, genius that I am, I grab L and leap in. And sink way, way down. I quickly realize that I am quite stuck. The more I move, the further I sink, like quicksand. I try not to panic. A couple of the other moms offer to help me out. But, honestly, I'm a fairly husky lady and I did not want to be responsible for their medical bills.
Guys, I really thought they were going to have to call the fire department or something. It took me 10 minutes to free myself. :drink: :drink: :drink:
I've come close to that. It's hard to get out when you're adult-sized! The little munchkins just kind of surf along the top, and they make it look so easy that I didn't realize how difficult it can be when you're big enough to actually sink down in (i.e., more than about 50-60 pounds, maybe?).
I take the girls to a local gymnastics place that has the same set-up, and from what I've seen, the woman you saw who got in and out easily is not the rule among adults. A lot of people wallow around in there awhile once they figure out that it's not as easy as it looks, and some do end up needing a hand. Don't feel bad!

The story makes me feel panicky. I am sorry that happened to you. And those ladies asking if you wanted help probably made you feel more self conscious which made getting out harder. Ugh.
Okay, here are two of mine. Both happened within the last 12 month:
First one was a few months ago. Get home at about 5 o'clock and realize there is a huge hole in the ass crack of my yoga pants. My mind then drifts to all the things I've done that day- workout on an elliptical at my gym, squat down at the grocery store to get the LaCroixs way in the back, run after my son at soccer practice.
The second one was at the gym pool last summer and I'm sitting with my knees pulled up to my chest watching S swim when two little girls, maybe 12, are pointing and whispering. My bush is clearly poking out of my fucking bathing suit for the world to see.
So apparently, I like showing everyone my hairy crack. That is just as bad if not worse. We all have embarrassing moments :-)

Fuck 'em! Do you know how many "husky" moms won't even give it a try because of their huskiness? You did it and you got out and you had fun with your kid.
eb- the lady in front of me at sprouts today had a hole in the butt of her yoga pants. I wanted to tell her but I just felt weird.
Tamb it's at least 5 feet deep, seriously. I'm 5'4 and it was up to my neck and i could not feel a solid bottom. I think it's Ok for kids because they weigh about 200 lbs less than I do. they need a warning!

Omg. I feel for you!! My dd went to a party recently and her first dive she went straight in the foam block pit and when she started to move, she sun further in. The blocks almost covered her head. I had this panicked feeling because I was a good ways away from her. It looked like quicksand, I was terrified that she would be swallowed up! She scrambled out, but I had visions of me running to help her and being pulled in by her. Sinking in the same way and needing like a crane to rescue me! Then a few days later my Dh said that the place has rats in the foam pit and was shut down temporarily. Ack! I didn't laugh at your escapades because of my fears... But I admit that I chuckled at you losing your socks.
OMG My worst nightmare when I took gymnastics as a little kid was getting stuck in there or sinking and not being able to breathe. Even as a little thing, I was scared to jump in there. I think I did once, hated it, and never did it again.
Our boys & girls club had a ball pit and foam pit that were attached by an underground tunnel The tunnel scared the shit out of me. The foam pit was always getting closed due to lice problems. (By always, I mean it happened like 6x) They had to close it.
