if ONE MORE person gives me the runaround trying to schedule **awesome** opportunities for people to take my blood and call me old and crazy, i'm going to lose it.
in the next 12 days i will do a blood draw for a T21 test (which is optional but recommended, and i'm opting in and YES the OB nurse said i should and YES she'll "order" it and YES SHE TOLD ME TO CALL AND SCHEDULE THE BLOOD DRAW TODAY), get a blood draw at the endocrinologist, have a follow up chit-chat with the endocrinologist, have my 12 week ultrasound and one blood draw at the perinatologist, have another 12 week "regular" checkup and different blood draw at my regular OB, and i also have a dentist appointment (lol). and i'll be OOT for 2 days for work.
and all of that would be FINE if i didn't have to call 3 times to make each appointment, be asked REPEATEDLY for my birthday and "are you already a patient here?" and then be questioned on why i'm making the appointments at all. oh yes. i love going to doctor's offices! i'm DYING to go to all of these appointments. they were all JUST MY IDEA ALONE. i'm using my calm and professional voice with you, so don't use your sardonic and/or "there there you skittish little kitten" voice with me. seriously.
listen, i know that nu would be all "you've drunk the standard medical care kool-aid, you loser," but if someone i trust with an MD says "this is a good idea so you don't fuck yourself or your fetus up," well, folks, i do it. i just would like their schedulers to get on board as well.
I feel you on the blood draws with the endo, I think I had to go once a month when i was pregnant with C. And all the other crap. the head nurse at my OB office knew me, "Oh hi, L!" lol
When are you going to be back up this way, hmmmmmm?

probably never. i'll be consulting with my 782 doctors, and they'll be recommending canes and restricted travel and pockets full of werther's.
i'd like to add that i am happily, gloriously pregnant and am so thankful for that. i just don't want to talk to another doctor's office admin EVER EVER AGAIN. ever.

Even before the third tri? Boo!
oh, i'm joking. but with work and previously-arranged vacations, i'm not sure if by the time i'm free to travel i'll be able to swing it. this is very diamond shoes are too tight.
That's a lot of blood and doctors. It should slow down after this, though, right? My next appointment is my 36 week, and they said that's the last time they'd draw blood. I wish my OB's lab person worked everywhere, she's like a ninja with a blood draw. I don't even know she started and she's already done. I should offer to give her a recommendation because every medical facility should know how awesome she is at that.
Be prepared to hear "advanced maternal age" at like every fucking appointment. lololol. It is like the bane of my goddamned existence, that I feel fairly young and strong and I inevitably leave the OB's office feeling slightly stooped and needing a walker.
i know. and then they keep saying "is there anything else other than AMA?" like i'd be hiding anything from them at this point. all of the greater metro area has seen my vagina and had a vial of blood sent their way. i promise you, if there were anything else, I WOULD TELL YOU.

so far, i've had great draws and little bruising. apparently my veins are great. /preens.
i'll continue with relatively regular blood draws because of the thyroid BS, but otherwise they should slow down.

lol ok. Well, if you do come back up this way, definitely let me know so we can meet up.
I just going to go ahead and make this post about me. I was 42 when I had my kid. The LD nurse looked at my chart and said "Wow, we're the same age. My son is going to be a freshman in college this year. I can't imagine having a newborn right now." Yeah. That was before I got my epidural.
I love that my HMO blood draws are so low key and never need me to schedule ahead. The coordination between my OB, the RE, and the labs is fantastic. (Now if only I could get pregnant by good logistics alone.)
Sorry, cville. People are idiots. I am a (YOUNG LOOKING, TYVM) 35.75 year old pregnant lady and I totally feel like I have to add a caveat whenever I talk about my pregnancy. "Yes, we did get a late start," "But, I'm glad I'm an "older" parent," "this will be our last, I'm too old to have more," etc etc. I really just need to just STFU and let people think what they may.
