I'm really gassy; I hate it. I live in fear of my farts in professional settings and unfart-appropriate times. I have digestive issues and lots of stomach issues, so I think mine is a direct result of that. But it still sucks.
My mom had a ton of stuff that was triggered by her last pregnancy, including basically everything just settling dooowwwnnnn. Not real prolapse but enough that they fixed some stuff when she had her hysterectomy. It gradually lead to her diverticulitis. Note: not direct pregnancy = diver. but all the things from the pregnancy started a chain reaction. My sister was HUGE (10lbs) and my mom had GD so it was a special case, but the ripple effect is more what I'm talking about.
So I don't know, Tamb, I'd probably at least chat w your PCP about it in a "how can we fix this or what's the underlying cause" way. It can't hurt to push for it if you feel something is off. I wouldn't be surprised if pregnancy triggers something, our organs are all shifted around and crap.
I feel like I have more gas than the average person. I am very fortunate that 90% of my farts are silent. Just yesterday I realized I farted right next to a group of people on some steps and had to casually walk away. I guess my point to sharing that fact is that I fart so much I don't always even notice I'm doing it.
I think we should all tally how many times we fart tomorrow and compare.
I get painful gas. Like so painful I have to go find a place I can try to work it out. I used to joke that labor would be easy after years of painful gas and bloating.
Having the boys has helped. But now that I'm barely nursing them, its come back. I used to think it was diet related. But I noticed it was the worst when I hadnt eaten anything in awhile. If I go hours without food, I'm miserable. I had GI work ups and they basically said I had IBS. But I really wonder if their is a gluten component. My blood work was negative, but sometimes you can just be sensitive to it. I cant cut out gluten though. I'm already practically vegan!
You know the smell is bad when you throw open the covers in the morning and the fart smell is trapped in there and gets to waft around in the morning air.
MWOS, just out of curiosity, what do the pieces of undigested food indicate?
With my friend, she was seeing pieces of food, which led her doctor to believe the issue was with her small intestine, not her large intestine. That's how they started in on the Celiac diagnosis. The other doctors she had seen focused on large intestine, and she had a colonoscopy and cultures done and nothing was ever found.
This all happened like 4 years ago, so if I've got any of the details wrong maybe someone with more knowledge can correct me.

I get bad gas starting the day before my period. Since my cycle is so irregular, the gas keeps my period from being a total surprise.
I went to my doctor a couple of years ago for generic stomach issues. Not gasiness per se, but I though I might have IBS. My doctor told me that my body could have problems digesting milk or fiber from raw veggies. She suggested an elimination diet to see if the symptoms improved. I still couldn't pinpoint it, but started taking probiotic supplements. Those seemed to do the trick.
Tamb, quite honestly, my H has similar problems. He has been to doctor after doctor, had ultrasounds and colonoscopies and endoscopies and blood tests and no one can find anything wrong with him. It's incredibly frustrating to watch him hurting with no solution. He is trying probiotics now. It has been maybe 2 weeks and he hasn't noticed it helping. We have talked about trying another kind and doing elimination diets. He really doesn't want to change the way he eats, but something has got to give.
I've tried probiotics, and they did nothing for me. I haven't eliminated any foods because I don't know where to start, and I'd probably either get the placebo effect or be so anxious about it that I made myself gassy.
I still had this thread up when I got to work this morning. :-# Hopefully no one saw it.
Anyhoo, let's get down to business. Fart business.
There are some foods that seem to create more gas than others. There isn't a "Beans the Musical Fruit" song for nothin'. I'd try eliminating (or eating less of) eggs and beans to start and see where that goes.
Fun Fact: Suzanne Somers hasn't farted since the 90s.

If you find a solution to this let me know, my GI system has been so screwed up lately I'm farting like a truckdriver. And its loud. I'm hiding in other rooms of our apartment.
I'm going to start trying a pro-biotic just to see if it will help at all.

Have you tried any OTC or rx meds? Kept track of any foods that might be a trigger? If its bothering you it sounds like it could be more than normal. Although Im not really sure what normal would be in this case.
Oh, also, elimination diets are boring and sucky. I have done a few (and found nothing except what I already knew about dairy). Most of them start you on plain brown rice, berries, and fish or somesuch. Then they add in one or two foods, in a particular order, every 3-4 days for six weeks to three months. You can look at various web sites to see sample elimination diets and see if there is one that looks doable for you.
Also, plan ahead when you do it. I didn't think it out very well and started it when I had a birthday party, a graduation, a music festival, and a gallery opening to go to all in the first three weeks. I couldn't eat anything at any of those functions without wrecking it and seriously wanted to break shit. "Hey, want some of this dark forest cake? How about this cranberry spinach salad? Oh, there are also fruit tarts! Looks like somebody brought krispy kreme!" "No, I'm good, I have this rice cake in my purse."
I fart a lot. Some days they smell really bad too, and other times, not so bad. I think that is more in relation to what I ate.
But last fall, I really thought I was developing digestive problems, like having to take a shit 3-4 times a day every day. But then it just went away and I was more regular again.
DH farts a lot too. It's gross and it kinda drives me crazy because they are really loud. He just lets them rip all over the house, I try and be a little more discrete about it.
