I have been told sneezing = allergies. Green only means it has been sitting in your sinuses for awhile, not necessarly an infection and/or cold. Try a allergy med with a decongestant, the kind you have to get from behind the counter because of the f-ing meth heads. Change your furnace filter, if you can have someone dust and vac while you are not home, and try a netti pot.
ETA: I used to get 2-3 sinus infections a year. My doctor said they were caused from allergies and put me on a daily OTC allergy pill and Nasonex. This was 7 years ago, I have had one sinus infection since. So it could be both, allergies causing the mucus, mucus en getting infected=sinus infection.

For me, colds usually start with a scratchy throat before any other symptoms, while my allergy attacks usually start with the roof of my mouth being itchy. After the initial symptoms, the rest is basically the same. Either way, saline spray and a decongestant will help. I also like mixing honey and cinnamon and eating a teaspoonful of the mix twice a day. This seems to help my throat, and I think they both have antibiotic/antimicrobial properties.
I swear one time I had a cold and allergies, which sucked. For me,allergies are usually watery, red eyes.I don't usually have that with a cold. And with a cold,I am more stuffed up. I don't know if that helps.
