So under the advice of MM mom's I gave DS some motrin at night and it seemed like it really helped. But my question is how many days in a row should I give it to him? His teeth aren't all the way out yet although they are peaking above the gum line.
He seems perfectly fine during the day so I can't really gauge how much pain he is in until he wakes up screaming It seems easy on me and him if I can just give him the motrin before he goes to bed so he doesn't have to wake up in pain, but then I worry about giving him motrin multiple days in a row. Do I need to be worried?

I understand not wanting to give multiple days in a row if you can avoid it. We usually don't give pain meds for teething until DS shows signs of pain. (crying, irritability, etc)

Yeah, it was just night and day the difference when we gave him some before bed, so I feel like it helps him. He is still refusing solids so I assume his gums still hurt. Babies need to learn how to talk!
I always just wait until he's hurting and cranky which is usually at night. Even if you gave it to him when he went down for the night, it will have worn off by morning anyway.
To be completely honest, I'd probably give it to him before bed for the next few nights to be safe. It works best if you give it before the pain gets too bad and it will save you some aggravation. A couple extra doses of motrin isn't going to hurt a thing.

Thanks Lilly! I will go with your advice since you have the credentials to back it up Perhaps we will try no motrin Friday night so that if it is a horrible night I don't have to go to work in the morning ha ha.

We are trying to wait to give until he is really causing a fuss. For now, that is actually during the day. I think giving it the next couple nights and skipping Friday to see how he does sounds like a good plan.
I agree that giving Motrin for several nights in a row is not a problem. If you still see the teeth breaking gums I would go ahead and give some at bedtime.

My DD got motrin at both nap and bed for MONTHS on end. I felt really bad about it at first, but her pediatrician said it was totally fine.
He said that she was fine during the day because she was busy and exploring. But once she was lying alone in the bed, she had nothing to do but to think about how much her teeth hurt her.
I'd periodically not give it at night to see how she did because I wanted to make sure she was still in pain and needed it. If she still needed it, I'd give it to her after an hour or so when she really couldn't sleep.

Interesting. I wonder this is why DS's naps have been such crap at daycare lately. Poor kid actually fell asleep outside in the providers lap yesterday! That never happens.
