I have never had one, but I have really rough heels that have a fair amount of built up dead skin. It's gross, but I don't really wear flip flops, I normally wear flats. So no one really sees. However, I have tried pumice stones and apparently don't know how to work them because it is like rubbing a rock against my foot and nothing happens. I've tried those egg things that supposedly help; it doesn't.
Would these be taken care of if I got a pedicure? And how?
I want to get one for this summer/before my friend's wedding since I am a bridesmaid.
But I also have chubby toes and small toe nails, does this matter? I'm self conscious about my feet, lol.

Your feet will look a lot better after a pedi. Get the spa pedi or more moisturizing version. They do a hydrating mask on my calves and feet and add more massage time. Don't let them use the razor for sanitary purposes.
Callous remover sounds like a really good idea. I hate shoes and socks and will ditch them whenever possible so my feet take a beating and I was never really girly until the last 2 years and now I don't know how to be girly. Or what pedicures and the such entail. Lol.

Now I want to go get one tomorrow!
I've always heard this, which is why I have never gone. But I thought I was being over dramatic.
Do I go to a spa like place or do I go to dime a dozen pedi/mani place?
Serendipity Signature, 80 minutes - $40 Indulge your feet with the ultimate spa pedicure featuring a moisturizing mask and paraffin wrap. Your feet will be silky smooth and beautiful.
It better be the best 40 bucks ever. They do have 30 minute ones that are 25 bucks, but hey, if I am doing this, I want the ultimate experience.
ETA: It's a small local day spa around here, that I always forget about.
I live in an insanely cheap area. The cost of living is super low because there aren't any jobs around here. But I have heard good things about this place!
My toes are curling at this post. My feet are so ticklish pedicures are torture. I haven't had one in probably 5 years.
I have a Swedish file and about every other week I sit in our bathroom and soak my feet for a good long time and use that to slough my feet. It's not as bad when I do it myself.
I hate getting pedicures. I usually soak my feet and do it myself. You need to get them soaking long enough to soften, then dry, then brush with the stone. But I did get an AMAZING pedicure at the podiatrist. He used tools that look like dentist tools but giant version and scrubbed and cleaned and cut and got my feet SO SOFT. And you can't beat sterile instruments! I plan on going back twice a year or so. My insurance pays for it too...
That sounds wonderful. And to second (or 25th? Lol) the notion that 'they have seen worse', the last time I went for a pedi, I sat down next to a woman on which it looked like they were using a Dremel-like thing; they were still sanding her feet down when I left. I really hope she tipped well!
You can go to Sally's Beauty Supply and get a Mr. Pumice to help in between pedis. They're purple, kind of like a really dry and crispy sponge, and are the best pumice I have ever used. I keep mine on the bathtub ledge and pumice my heels whenever I shave my legs.
Also. Get a foot file File your feet every night for a few minutes and apply lotion. It makes a world of difference. I get really gnarly feet (from running) if I don't do this.
Go to Sally's Beauty supply store and buy a Mr. Pumice pumice bar (the purple/lavendar one) and use it EVERYDAY after your shower. A couple of times a week, slather lotion on your feet, wrap them in plastic wrap and leave them that way for 15 minutes. If you put socks on after lotioning your feet, the lotion gets pulled into the socks. Wrapping them in plastic lets the lotion absorb into your skin.

If you pumice your feet every day, them moisturize them when you get out of shower and then again before bed, you can help with some of the callous formation.
But seriously, just get the pedicure. They're awesome.
w/r/t the razor blades, its not a great idea, in that it does not result in your feet getting smoother over time, but you can help with the "keeping it sanitary" goal by making sure they change out the blade and clean the handle before they use it on you.
in my experience, only the little asian nail bars do a really good job. any time i go and have a legit spa pedicure, the polish job isn't as good and it takes 4x as long. and it costs 3x the price.
i'm sure this is rascist or something, according to you people.
I may or may not have had a discussion on FB last night with jermys, cbwm, mwos and dickmove about how asian nail places are better than non-asian nail places. And cheaper. But the non-asian places usually let you bring in booze, which I was hoping to do for the day before my wedding, (I want to take my bridesmaids out for pedicures and bring in mimosas), and the asian-places (around here anyway) usually do not let you.
In short, wanna sit in my handbasket to hell with me?

I've had success with the ped egg. I worry about bacteria. Some places will give you your own set of tools to keep their in they're on the higher end. I also feel like a douche when people work on my feet. It makes me feel squicky.
I started using a pumice stone recently, and I notice a big difference -- not immediately, like it wasn't night and say the first time I used it, and I don't do it and feel like there's an immediate difference, but more as long-term maintenance.
I give my feet a scrub every morning now, and about a month in, I have way less skin build-up, and my heels and the bottom of my feet are smoother.
I think starting with a pedi is a good idea, but if you're consistent about some of the things you can do at home, I think you can still get good results from them if you give it some time.
