It's in the day, obviously. It's May 11 in CT so it could be hot, very warm, warm, rainy/cold (it's New England-it could be any or all). I'd like to look nice (hoping for a family picture with H in his regalia)-I plan on a dress-but what type of dress? How fancy or not fancy?
I don't/can't do sleeveless unless I wear a shrug or cardigan over it (Formerly fat arms = loose chicken arm skin. I also have a gigantic scar going from my upper arm to right below my elbow on one arm from surgery to repair a fracture years ago.).
I actually think a nice A-line dress with a cardigan is perfect. You could even have it be a 3/4 sleeve if a) that's fashionable (Booby?) and not for old people and b) you're comfortable with it. Something like this:
i've never graduated that my husband wasn't also graduating, but i prefer a nice, understated black dress with some lovely jewelry. something maybe elbow-length sleeves? knee length. wool or silk crepe?
fancy enough that you can really dress it up for evening wear in the future, but plain enough that you don't look like you are wearing a bridesmaid's dress to a daytime event (which is TOTALLY what my mil did when she went to my husband's commissioning.).
easy to add a sweater or tights to if the weather isn't cooperating.
I wore a dress like ninja's suggestion to DH's med school graduation.
They had family members go up and hood each graduate (whoever had supported them through the process) so I got to put his hood on. At my law school graduation, everyone with little kids walked across the stage with the kids.
