I got a taste for the finer things at an early age, when my mom took me to the Laura Mercier counter to pick out foundation for the first time when I was in college.
That said, I do not follow the rules for tossing make-up so I get years out of a single blush compact. I just now have to buy a new one because my old one fell and cracked. Wah.
I recently got hooked on $65 primer which makes me feel like a dope when people here are raving about freaking Monistat.
I think people are reading judgment into my posts where they really should be reading fascination.
I'm realizing that I have, like, no obsessions. I thought this the other day when His was so excited about Opening Day. I wish I had that kind of devotion to something that gave me that much pleasure. Makeup seems to do that to some people, to the point of actually willingly spending time in Sephora, and spending $26 where $6 would do. (and, c'mon, admit it - the $6 blush would do.)
But you enjoy it. Rock on with your bad selves. I am under-pigmented and boring, admittedly.
I totally get that. I love my $26 blush (and my $45 blush), but I don't think others are weird if they're not into it.
Cloth diapers are totally not my thing, but I know there is a large community of women who like $45 specialty diapers. If it makes them happy, yay for diapers!
Lol Kore good for them, but that never made sense to me because a good 60% of the reason we use them is for the cost savings.
ETA and Toledo, I feel you. I don't get hyped up about much, really, except a good book. And even then, since the price of ebooks has gone up, I'm cheap about those, too.

My reward to myself for getting through four weeks of couch to 5k is the $20 concealer I've been wanting for, like, a year. I'm cheap. I wish I wasn't.

My skin doesn't like drugstore makeup. It irritates my skin. Also, the long-wear on the expensive makeup means I don't have to re-apply it every few hours. Also, a little bit tends to go a long way and the makeup will last me awhile. Except for pencil eyeliner. Which is one reason I usually use my $23 Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner.
I get almost horny (possibly) when I see a new Tarte kit.
It's not normal and it's what's wrong with America.
Yes, have you seen the new Aqualillies line? I am having to seriously restrain myself from buying all the things. I don't even think all of the colors in the palette would look good on me but the packaging is so damn cute.
I don't know. I spend like zero dollars on makeup. Obviously.
But I spend inordinate amounts of money on food, which literally turns to shit, so all of my money is really going down the toilet.
I simply can't judge people who spend money on ANYTHING ELSE THAT DOESN'T TURN TO SHIT.
Hahahahahahahahaha.
That's what my mom says about wine. You drink, you piss, it's gone. She almost had a aheart attack the year we asked her to chip in for my dad's gift of a $500 bottle of wine. In the end she did, although she still complains about it, even though he hasn't drank it yet, so it hasn't turned into piss.
When I buy non-drugstore makeup, I try to stick to value sets from Ulta or Sephora, and even QVC. You can easily end up spending less than half the cost of all the individual items purchased separately. I was wanting Benefit Posietint for probably a year and a half or more before I caved and spent the $30. I just recently purchased a Naked palette because I had a hard time with the $50 price tag. I bought that and Posietint together and am nearly certain that I used a 20% off coupon, and still felt guilty.
I bought three eyeshadow palettes, two blushes, face shimmer, and lip gloss as a set for $36 in a Tarte sample sale. It will last me 2 years. I also bought it through ebates, so I will get a few pennies back on it.
I haven't mastered the art of being cheap and looking fancy just yet, but I've made great strides.
