sometimes i get sick of worrying about what food i'm eating and how many calories they have.. i would just like to come home and eat some chips and make a high calorie lasagna casserole without obsessing over it, lol.
Ya'll are making me super anxious again about my 17mo. She doesn't say mama or dada at all, really. She'll babble the syllables, but not at us. She signs a lot, and we have "uh oh" and "Bree" (our dogs name) and occasionally "bye", but thats about it. Some of the babies in my BMB are speaking in sentences. Ugh.
my nephew was not much of a talker at this age and he developed a little late with his talking.. but now he is almost 7, talks perfectly normal in TWO languages, if that makes ya feel better?
I've debated back and forth for the past 2+ weeks about how to handle a minor blowout I had with some boundary challenged friends and how to keep the friendship yet make it clear that they need to respect my privacy.
Every avenue I come to makes it feel so damn exhausting to be around them and I think I'm done. Now, I'm trying to figure out how to accomplish this with as little effort or drama as possible.

this was my kid. If you would feel better having her evaluated then I say go for it, there is nothing to lose. If something is wrong you catch it early and if not then just consider it extra playtime.
I firmly believe that being delayed in something is not a measure of your child's intelligence. My kid is super smart, but she was too busy doing other things to bother with talking .
I'm back from getting hitched and honeymooning, and have been eating a bunch of crap just because I don't have to stuff myself into a wedding dress anymore.
I see you sneaking this in here! We want details! Pictures!
If I could do it over again, I would do any speech eval I could get with S. I listened to people tell me over and over he's fine, a boy, an only child with a SAHM, blah blah blah. I should have followed my instincts and gotten him evaluated on my own.
I don't think speech delay is anything to freak out about because it's sooo fixable but being proactive early is key. Had I done that when S was one or two, he wouldn't be as delayed as he is now.
Oh and my husbands best friend is moving here this weekend. We are so excited!!!! He is staying with us temporarily and it will be so nice to have him around. Yippee
I was just with my SD friend and she wants to GTG with us. I think the 20th works best. You still up for it? :drink:
Thanks for making me feel like I'm not so crazy and being so reassuring EB. Hopefully you see a lot of improvement in S over the next few months. He's a sweet, bright kid and you have nothing to worry about (though I know that doesn't mean you WON'T worry)
Thanks :-) I was just telling H how his speech is improving but I say that every few months! It's an ongoing thing once they start talking.
And I totally agree with whoever said speaking late doesn't mean they aren't intelligent. I'm AMAZED at how smart my kid is and not to toot my own horn, but he is a really bright kid! I'd be lying if I said I wan't worried about him being smart when we first realized he was speech delayed.
Hang in there! She'll probably start talking soon. I remember when S was 18 months he wasn't talking and I asked other Moms at Gymboree classes about their kid's speech and a lot of them weren't speaking yet so who knows. Only time will tell.
I have a ton of early speech books from when S was little. Let me know if you want them. I was going to donate them but will pass them on to you if you want them.
The pedi agreed the boys should be evaluated for their speech, and now I have working mom guilt
Okay, so I still have it a little but literally just this second polka made me feel better, so okay. I don't think Marc will qualify but Gabe might (or it could be a "yeah we're concerned but he's not at the mark yet so check back in X months" thing).

Ever since toledo posted the Marina Abramovic video, I've been on a "read everything about performance art again" kick. My Visual Communications class thanks you, toledo. OK they don't, but I DO!

Wow, my twins are almost 18 months and their pediatrician said nothing at their 15 month appointment. She watched that they made sounds and "talked" to each other, but was not concerned that they really aren't speaking. Was their any other reason to be concerned? One year seems early to be diagnosing speech issues.

I will totally take you up on those! Maybe when we gtg in 2 weeks?

Just... leaving this here. No new pictures, sadly.
I had a fun silly morning. We went to SFMoMA for free admission day and ate Daniel Hirst cake. (The cake is a white square and you place your own polka dots). ProfessorArtNerd

I sound like a muppet going through puberty when I have any voice at all. It has made parenting interesting. H is, of course, traveling right now. How come he is always gone when the kids or I are sick?
I still have not gone grocery shopping since our return from vacation. We can live off pb and honey sandwiches and cereal indefinitely, right?
I just heated up a plate of leftover linguine that had been tossed in garlic oil and topped it with a substantial amount of fresh Parmesan cheese. LTD, man.

Haha, that's great! Polka dots, not pills, right? Also, PM

NOT A CASSEROLE.
Is it a lasagna, do you think? The ingredients were stacked on top of each other, so...yes?
MrsAxilla, it ended yesterday in Israel, but the Diaspora celebrates for 8 days. The reasoning is complicated and less than satisfactory given our modern ability to tell time, but I do it anyway.
I've decided we're going out for a burger or crepes.
Well fuck me! I miscounted. Math is hard. Don't tell DH!
I'm an iphone picture hoarder. I have over 1700 pictures on my phone right now. I finally saved them all to my computer last night so I can delete them and have room to take more (I ran out of storage a couple of times over the weekend).
This sounds like me. I had 1500 pics on my phone and my H finally took my phone an uploaded them for me lol.
My random is I cannot wait to see George Strait in concert this weekend!!!! He is the only "older generation" country singer I have never seen and I am beyond excited!!
He is wonderful to see. I love his songs. You'll love it!!
My grandma called today wondering about seeing the kids. It didn't work out for her to see them today. At the end of our conversation she said 'I love you' and I said it back. I needed that today, and it made me a bit teary.
i put seasoned chix breasts in a skillet 10 minutes ago. never turned the damn thing on. just standing here...apparently, i'm waiting for them to cook with nothing but the warmth of the love of jesus in my heart.
