I got back on TN after a year or so and it was just crickets over there.
I started off on TK (I know GAG) when I was engaged but never posted much. Once I was married I started reading TN and then we got pregnant. I was having really bad complications so I decided to post on TB asking questions. Well, I posted in the wrong place I guess because I was basically told I'm sorry blahblah blah etc but if you do stay pregnant FUCK OFF and don't come back. We did in fact lose the baby but I never went back. Sooo yeah theres that.
I am tired of feeling like a creeper knowing so much about all of you but never sharing.
I'm in Texas. Married with one child. I'm a student/SAHM.

I'm mostly a beer girl. Not even what most would consider good beer. Usually I will drink Bud Light or Bud Light Lime.
We have been to Jamaica 2x and to Mexico. In June we will be traveling to the Dominican Republic. I am excited but I am completely obsessed with Jamaica and all things Marley.
I never traveled before I met my husband. As a kid I don't think I ever left Texas. Now I love to travel as much as possible. I have been to so many places in the US as well since we have been together.

Thank you! I didn't know if anyone would get it
Mabel "Madea" Simmons is another one of my obsessions. She lives within me and a lot of my conversations involve her quotes. Sadly not everyone knows WTH I am talking about... (convo w/me and my boss) Me- "Girl you are looking skinnTy." Boss- "What? I look skanky?" Me- *blank stare* LOL
I NEVER sleep. Well, not at a reasonable time. I can sleep great during the day when everyone is gone! (My first flameful confession)
Good Luck to you as well! I know I will need it. How much longer do you have? Sadly I am already feeling burnt out. I was never a great student so trying this as an adult is not easy.

I see you are in China. What brought you there?
I tried Bud Light Lime once and didn't love it. But I'm really picky about beer.
DR? That should be a great trip! I'm envious. And I've never been to Jamaica, but would love to go.
DH was offered a job with his company working for a joint venture with a company in China. It required a 2 year stint in Shanghai, that is actually up in October. We're really enjoying it here (it is hard to complain when all your housing costs are paid for and you get a set raise amount plus transportation and cost of living allowances). We plan to renew for at least another 2 years if we can, and probably more after that unless something pops up in another country. We love how easy it is to travel around Asia from here.

I have no idea who Mabel Simmons is.
One of the few things I miss about my last job is that I had more opportunity to look at x-rays and I had actually gotten pretty good at them. I remember one time that I even caught a subtle ankle fracture that the doc had missed. ::pats self on back:: Now I'm sorely out of practice.
Also, being nocturnal is not flameful. I live that way. :-)

I like wine and other things too but I really only drink when we go out. I'm not a big at home drinker so I don't experiment as much as I should. It is usually just my crappy beer and a lot of it! lol
Jamaica was somewhere I was always drawn to even though people talked SO MUCH ISH about the island. Once you go you know. It honestly pulls at my heart strings. If you ever decide to go I can give you some info. I highly recommend it. Travel the island, see and do as much as possible.
I envy you. We love to travel but I am still afraid to really move out of my comfort zone. Sounds like you have an awesome set up!
My son wants to go to China and Japan REALLY bad. Mostly Japan for the sushi (yep an 11 year old that LOVES sushi) but we have talked about visiting Asia at some point. We are looking into taking him on a big trip for his 13th bday and right now his heart is set on Asia.

Mabel "Madea" Simmons is the full name of "Madea" in the Tyler Perry movies.
That sounds really cool! I haven't made it far enough to do anything like that yet. I think once I do I will be more interested. Right now it is really boring work and I think that is why I am so burnt out. I need some hands on learning and I don't mean looking at dirty creek water in a microscope. Yes that is as exciting as it gets right now.
I think my lack of doing anything productive is the flameful part. Are you still productive? I can get up and take care of my biz if I HAVE to of course (My Mom and Wife duties don't stop) but you better believe if I have nothing going on I can sleep ALLLL day. I hate myself for it.

I worked out and changed the kitty litter tonight. That's productive, right? Oh, and I ran the dishwasher too.
I am sometimes productive. Not as much as I was when I was working 3p-3a admittedly, and I miss that schedule, but the 7p-7a isn't terrible. It helps that a fair amount of the time BF has a similar schedule, so much of the time when I'm up all night, so is he.
Starting next week however, he will be on first shift for a month and we're both dreading it. Conveniently, I scheduled our vacation right in the middle of it, so there's one week less that we have to deal with it, LOL. And then in May he goes back to nights. Not that I did that on purpose or anything.
I think it is awesome that your son loves sushi. H didn't try sushi until he was 23 or 24. His company decided to send him on a business trip to Japan and he was afraid of having his first time eating it being in Japan, so we had some mediocre sushi. Now after having it in Japan he is spoiled.
A trip to Asia would be the best 13th birthday present ever. If you do decide to plan a trip, I'd be happy to give suggestions for the places we've been in China and where H has been in Japan, and what times of year are the best. It is also amazing how different China and Japan are, so it would be neat to see both in one trip.
I've finished 3 years of med school, but took a year off to live and work in South Africa at a NGO. So when I get back I just have my last year to finish, thank goodness. School is cool, but I'm ready to make some money! Although the paycheck during residency isn't that glamorous.
I heard there was a new Tyler Perry movie out...not sure if it's a Madea movie though. Have you seen it?
Hellerrr!
I hear ya on the money part. When I think of how much longer it will be until I am making money again *headdesk*
You must be talking about Temptation. I want to see that but I have not yet. Sadly I don't think Madea is in it at all. Have you seen all the movies? What was your favorite? Or your fav line? (Ok I know you can't choose just one so feel free to post a few)

That's more productive than I was today. H was home today so we made a day of lunch and shopping for house stuff. I should have been doing laundry. In my defense, H likes to go spend the day together when he has a random week day off.
Then we picked up our son from his after school activity and it was dinner time! Yep, we went out to dinner and I didn't cook. I sound like a real catch right?

Eh, cooking is over-rated.
BF is so much more productive than I am when he's home, so since he's at work tonight, I kind of guilted myself into doing SOMETHING productive. Last night while I was at work, he cleaned the whole garage and did like 36 other things. He comes home and I'm like, "Yeah, I played on the internet and watched TV all night. Oh, and here's the token chore I did just to soothe my conscience." It's ridiculous. And he loves me and tells me he likes doing housework because it makes me happy and he doesn't care if I don't do anything. ::swoon::

All 3 of us LOVE sushi and would just DIEDIEDIE if we could have the legit thing there. I am sure there is nothing like it. We are actually kind of picky when it comes to sushi. (look at me with my pinky out holding my crappy beer) LOL We have friends who will eat it on the buffets and stuff and we just can't get down with that. <shiver>
We did promise our son a trip out of the country but we didn't think he would pick something so expensive. We were thinking one of the Caribbean islands We have almost 2 years to plan but we should have known with him. He is such a character.

People always ask me if my hubs has a brother. Maybe he does! He is the same way. He cooks, cleans and helps more than he should after a long day. I cook well actually and I make sure things are taken care of on the homefront but I am not the Susie Homemaker type. THIS is me.. .Attachment Deleted

Thanks for the welcome!
I did see a post on here that made me snort. As someone who has suffered a miscarriage I know it is a sensitive topic and I know the pain but some of those people are just evil and expect the whole world to stop. It's straight cray cray!
It is looking like we are one and done. We are on the fence and it varies from day to day. When we got pregnant we were happy of course but the whole trauma of a miscarriage, my school, our other child already being 11 and having learning disabilities among a few other things that require extra attention we worry about trying or is it the right time. Then we worry our time will pass and we will regret not having another. PLUS we really like our life with one. We are super close and we like to travel and live the baby free life, most days. We still get baby fever though.
Actually my son is not the biological son of my H. I was a single Mom for 7 years but H came in to the picture and is seriously the most amazing DAD ever. We are both really lucky. I worry one day he will feel like he missed something by us not actually having one together. He says no way would he ever think that but its just a worry of mine KWIM?
We would LOVE to adopt but those options are real thin...
Do you have a boy or a girl? Do you WANT any more?
Post by mabelsimmons on Apr 3, 2013 8:03:14 GMT -5
It has been a while since and after my last few posts I realized I probably shouldn't have said so much. I didn't want to make my coming out party about THAT. My fault I'm an oversharing/longwinded insomniac. LOL

This sounds extremely familiar. I want another but I don't want to change anything. I thought I'd ask since 11 seemed like a one and done. I get you.

What do you mean by this?
We don't have 20 grand laying around. When we look at the adoptable children website for Texas 99.99% of them seem to have physical and mental issues or both. Not that we wouldnt love any child but we believe this takes special people with special patience. It isn't us although I wish it was. We don't know anyone ala Parenthood or Juno that are looking for someone to take their unborn child.
Does that help?
We actually have thought about wanting to adopt an older child closer to our S age and then possibly another child a few years younger than that. We love the idea of adoption. I have quite a few family members who are adopted.
Post by Captain Serious on Apr 3, 2013 13:41:16 GMT -5
Okay, so you were talking about cheap, healthy child adoption. Yes, those options are rare, but some do exist. Some agencies have sliding fee scales and independent adoptions are often cheaper than using an agency.
I asked my question not to get a rise out of you, but because I've found that many people dismiss the idea of adoption out of hand because they believe all the kids are damaged or all adoptions are too expensive without really looking into it. I firmly believe that there is a type of adoption to fit everyone who seriously wants to adopt.
Yes, it's true, children available for adoption in any state almost always have some sort of medical or mental issue. That's because 1) they have experienced some trauma that resulted in them being in the system; and 2) most foster children are adopted by their foster families if they do not have serious special needs. So the kids that are "freed" or "available" for adoption but still have not found a family are typically the children with the greatest needs.
Just a quick warning about adopting an older child--the transition can be quite difficult and they may have more severe needs. I would also caution you to look into the issues surrounding adopting out of birth order if that's something you are considering.

It didn't bother me at all. Sorry if it read that way.
We have thought about that with older children as well. We already have our own child to think about so we cannot put him in any situation that would not be healthy.
You are right though we haven't gone to an agency or anything that in depth. It is overwhelming and like I said the cost alone scares us off.
I have family who have had several situations just open themselves up to them and I wish that would happen to us. Not that I wish for people to not want their babies or anything. That isn't what I'm saying just to be clear.
Post by Captain Serious on Apr 3, 2013 14:01:52 GMT -5
I know you didn't mean anything, but I assure you that most biological parents wish they could parent their children. It's not usually that they don't want them, it's that they don't feel able to provide them with the kind of life they want for their children.
If you are really serious about wanting to adopt, there's a great adoption board on the bump, believe it or not, that has a FAQs section and lots of information on where you can get more information so that it's not so overwhelming. There are also several of us here that would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

Oh I know. Like I said I have several family members who were adopted. This includes my M, my siblings, cousins, so on and so on. They are all different variations of how, what, why things turned out the way they did for the bio parents and our family. One case was even ended up in the Supreme Court years later when the bio parents "changed their minds". Long story...
But please don't read too much into my statement above. I assure you I know that isn't the reason all birth parents make the choice. I was just putting it out there I wasn't wishing ill for others strictly for my gain. Make sense?
And thank you for your info and help. I really do appreciate it
You're cute. Where are you from in Texas? I'm originally from Corpus.
Thank you! *blushing*
You aren't so bad yourself lady. Love the name!
I'm on the Gulf Coast too but closer to Galveston/Houston.
H and I are wanting to take a trip that way this summer. I have been looking at Port A but CC and a few other surrounding places are on the list too.
Aww thanks! I love the third coast! I have been majorly homesick lately. You should go to Port A and stay there, but then maybe go to CC for a day (it's only like a 25 min drive) so you can check out the aquarium. If you do decide to go there, let me know if you need any recommendations. FormerlyRR also used to live there. My friend owns Padre Island Burger Company and it's a fun bar to hang out at, though it's not exactly in Port A (but only like 10ish min away). One of my favorite restaurants ever is in Port A, it's called Cafe Phoenix.
