I agree with what lucyhoneychurch has been saying. North Korea's real motivation for all of this is keeping it's citizens in line. If North Koreans started to think their country isn't all it's cracked up to be, the government would have a serious problem.
I don't watch much mainstream news (aside from NPR) but has there been a lot of fear mongering going on?

The thing is they don't actually have to announce their threats to the world to keep the people in line. They have 100% control of all media in the DPRK so they can tell them anything they want. If all they wanted was for the people to believe that they were on the brink of war (and didn't actually want to follow through) they could tell the people that and be done with it. They'd never know anything different. I think he's putting on this show for the rest of the world with no regard for his own people.
Another thing that worries me is that, yes, they have made these same statements before, but were they as close to having a nuclear weapon as they are now?

Is it weird that I would go on a tour of NK in a heartbeat? They do very very guided tours for a limited number if tourists, and I think it would be so incredibly interesting/sad/crazy.

I feel for the citizens of NK, because its no secret that the man that they idolize views them as disposable, just as his father had done before.
And if the documentary mentioned by PP is the one I'm thinking it is, that's some heartbreaking shit. Its called "Children of the Secret State" and I fucking bawled throughout the whole damn thing. There are starving, half naked children eating garbage off of the ground while the adults that walk around them either ignore them, threaten them, or take it upon themselves to kick and step on their emaciated bodies. Fuck that place.
