If I do it, wil I die? The heat helps with flexibility, right? That's what I'm looking for in a yoga class. And some meditation/spirituality tuning up. But I'm fat and asthmatic and I don't want to die. Tell me about your experiences?
I went for the first time a few weeks ago. I didn't realize that "power hour" meant "This is the hardest class on our calendar!" I figured since it was the only one under 90 minutes it was the beginner class.
IT WAS NOT.
But, the good news is I was so busy trying not to die that the heat actually didn't seem that bad to me.
This is probably not helpful at all, but in other news I thought about you earlier because I am watching the Phillies play baseball right now.
I think it depends on what the humidity level is set at in your studio....and then trust that they know what they are telling you when you ask. :/ Why not try a not hot class. I do both and I love both. You get pretty darn flexible (and sweaty) by the end of your not hot class too!

I love not hot yoga classes, HiC! I had a really great teacher but her new place is too far for me to go. There's a new place really close, but until school is over, only their hot class fits with my schedule. Maybe I'll give it a whirl, it's tomorrow. So if you all don't hear from me, know I fried in yoga!
I do! I love it so much, and I think the reason is that I can do so many more poses and hold them so much longer because of the heat. I am not flexible at all and hot yoga has helped me go so much further. The studio I go to keeps the room at 105* and it feels amazing. It's the only yoga class I've ever stuck with, and I've kept with it for a couple years.
You won't die. Bring a gallon of water, wear as little clothing as you feel comfortable in, and keep your hair off your face/neck. Also take breaks when you need them. Good luck-my biggest problem now is justifying the cost of the studio because I'm addicted.
Hahaha! Awww, i cant comolain with being associated with my fightins! Are you in the area?
No, but my H is from ATL and is a huge Braves fan and for some reason we're getting the game tonight so he's ecstatic. lol (we're in chicago, so we don't usually get braves games here)
I do and I love it. Take it easy for the first class (don't push yourself too much even if you feel like you can), drink lots of water, and wear skimpy clothes. I like it so much better than regular yoga.
I don't mind heated vinyasa yoga but I hate Bikram and think it's kind of a sham. If it is simply a heated vinyasa class and you are used to non-heated yoga, you'll be fine but do your best not to sit right next to a heater, bring water, and stop if you feel dizzy or out of breath.

I don't like it, but I don't like sweating. Sometimes I also get itchy when I sweat. If I wanted to do hot yoga, I could just do yoga outside in the summer. It would probably be hotter than the rooms inside.
I tried it once. I did yoga for 15 minutes and then spent an hour on my mat breathing heavily and hoping I didn't die. I felt accomplished just for the fact that I didn't give in and completely leave the room. I love yoga but the hot stuff is not for me.
I love hot yoga. I started with essentially a hot ying/yang class - so half of the class was tough, then stretching. Then I just did extended stretching classes for a while. I worked my way up to power classes and they were my favourite. Not going to lie, I was in awesome shape then. Everything namasteak suggested is awesome advice.
