Okay this is pretty interesting!
Also, mekia, pardon my stupidity but I just don't know any deaf people. So can you tell me how it works when people call you? You can also tell me to fuck off lol, I'm just fascinated by it.

Fuck off.
Kidding, of course. We have a video phone. It is pretty much the same as Skype, but on a TV. If you call our home number, it automatically connects to a relay operator and our phone on the TV will start flashing when there is an incoming call. I sign to the relay (interpreter, pretty much) and the relay speaks to the person on the other line for me and signs to me. I can also talk directly with my deaf friends through the video phone without the relay person.
I have a question! Is it a different interpreter every time? Do you have "regulars"?
walterismydog and @tambcat, actually I get interpreters from all over the country. There are stations in almost every state and I rarely get the same interpreter.
Whenever I make a call, any interpreter can take it, they can see my number and name (like caller id). If they recognize my name, they are not supposed to take the call. I have few friends who work for the video phone company, but I never get them.
Thank you for answering! This is interesting.
I guess people you know shouldn't take your call for privacy reasons?
