"Why would you ruin perfectly good peanuts by adding candy corn? That's like saying hey, I have these awesome nachos, guess I better add some dryer lint." - Nonny

Um. Well, I wish I could be more reassuring, but this scenario actually happened to me before. Helicopters hovering, cops with spotlights, the works. We called the non-emergency police line and asked if we should be concerned. Yep. Turns out that there was a gang shooting in my quiet neighborhood- a case of mistaken identity no less. Several people were killed and more injured. The shooters ran through my neighborhood trying to get away. Armed. That was fucked up, let me tell you. It was terrifying.
Stay away from the windows, just in case. Better safe than sorry, right?
No murderers!! Apparently rescued a hiker that had missing since Sun in the canyon behind my house. Copters were providing light, hence the hovering and spotlights.
I'm glad it isn't a mass murderer. When I lived in Sacramento, there were often helicopters that would fly over for a long time. There were also usually police accompanying them announcing that everyone should stay indoors and lock doors and windows, etc. Very unnerving. I hope the hiker(s) are okay!
My cousin used to live in a not so great but okay neighborhood right next to a really bad neighborhood. One night we were on their deck drinking and the helicopter kept flying over with its spotlight on. I was freaking out thinking there was a convict on the run but no apparently that happened all the time and was more "preventative". I decided then I was more of a suburbs kind of girl.
This happened to me once in my parent's nice quiet neighborhood in college. I was actually getting out of my car in the middle of the night on a Friday and they shined their light on me and everything. I threw my hands up and ran inside. I was scared to death!
