After my long time sylist moved away, I went to a woman a few times, and the last time I went she gave me an awful cut. There is a stylist that has a chair in the same salon, and I just really liked her appearance. Her hair is awesome, and I like her style, so I decided I wanted to try her. I gave myself the "I am paying for it, dammit!" talk before going to her the first time, and stylist #1 wasn't there, so it was a non-issue. I loved what she did with my hair, as well as the advice she gave, and decided that is who I wanted to see again. Last night I went to get a color and cut and there stylist #1 was. I felt like a royal ass. Afterwards, as I was paying, she came over and said hello and asked how my kids were.
Does this happen often to stylists? I feel now like I should have explained why I switched. Bottom line, I am not switching to anyone else, because it is, afterall, my money and am paying for a service I should be happy with, but a color and cut is a long time to sit in a chair feeling mildly uncomfortable. Should I feel uncomfortable or do people switch like that all the time?
I have tried a couple of times and it created drama. Like, I would overhear the old stylist referring to me as "MY client", I am guessing assuming I booked someone else just because he wasn't available, etc. He would come chat while I got my hair done, and offer advice on my hair to the new stylist. I ended up switching salons, lol.
No, I haven't done this. And it's funny- just about 2 weeks ago I asked a neighbor where she gets her hair done. I love her cut and her hair is similar to mine.
Yeah... at the same salon to me and her stylist sits RIGHT NEXT to mine.
While I agree it's my money - I'd feel too weird to go to the stylist right next to mine.
I did a few years ago. I was primarily going to this one lady who has done my hair since I was a kid but I felt like she never really got me. I continued to go to her until I just got tired of her making comments about certain things. For example, I went for an eyebrow wax and she just kept harping on the fact that it had been so long since I'd been their last and how hairy my eyebrows were. My eyebrows are not a huge priority to me because I'm not a girly girl but I do like them to look nice. I feel like I pay someone to do a job, not fuss at me for letting my eyebrows get so bad. After that incident I called the same salon and when they asked me who I wanted my appointment with I said anybody was fine. It took me a few times to find the lady that I use now. She's so great with my hair and does my eyebrows perfectly.
Oh, actually- I lied. I have done this. But I didn't go from one right to another. I had actually gone to another salon for awhile then went back. But the reason I went to anothre stylist was because the one I used to go to - and actually really liked - was too popular and really hard to get an appt with. And she knew that!
Yes. Either on the 1st person's day off or I ask the 1st person if they would mind if I use 2nd person - they say, "of course" and I feel like it's done.
Most hairdresser rent their chairs from the salon, so there is a sense of competition/ownership. But it happens all the time.
