I occasionally wear what is obviously part of a suit (skirt and shell) and then have an "appointment" or take a "long lunch." And then go have lunch by myself somewhere. I like to keep my boss on his toes!

I'm sorry - your situation sounds so frustrating.  It's maddening when bosses are inconsistent.
