I bit the bullet and just went to the derm for my acne. I decided I'd end up spending way more trying out a bunch of different OTC products.
She had a million meds and suggestions for me. Gave me a combo of Aczone and Ziana (which is a clindamycin/retin A combo) for topicals, and put me on two months of antibiotics. Told me to stop all OTC acne treatment and stick to my current gentle cleanser and moisturizer.
She also told me to change from a pressed powder foundation to a loose powder foundation. I'm bummed because I felt like I had finally found something that was the right color and looked good, but it's back to Sephora and Target I go. Now I have a pile of makeup and skincare to return, since I'd just bought the Burt's Bees acne line and Bare Minerals pressed foundation and mineral veil, plus more Physician's Formula pressed mineral foundation. I wasn't loving the BM anyway, so I guess that decision is made for me.
She gave me discount cards for all the meds, but we'll see what the damage will be when I get to the pharmacy. I think my insurance may exclude all Retin-A based products for people over 25.
Anyone have a loose powder foundation that they love? I'm light to medium with pink undertones. BM "fairly medium" is a little too...something...on me. Maybe a little too yellow/ashen. I look dead.

What was her rationale behind this? I have never heard this before.
Because its an anti aging medicine and clearly people over 25 don't get acne so it could only be for that.
Signed, person over 25 with Acne.
There was some process I could do by the way to get my derm to process it as acne not anti aging (some authorization number for them to call). I'm on a high deductible so I don't know the difference, it's expensive still. But it lasts awhile!

I think mostly it was because I'm using a pressed powder foundation right now and have a lot of clogged pores. She said even though they're supposed to be non-comedogenic, sometimes the pressed powders have a little bit of oil or wax to hold the compact together that can affect certain people. I checked and both my pressed mineral foundations do have oil in them, so in my case, seems like it might help to switch.

Yeah, I still have all the receipts. I think I'm going to try the Bare Minerals Matte in fairly light, and get some of the JI samples. I have pink undertones too, although sometimes I can get away with a neutral shade. But I'd happily pay for a good color match.
