We had someone no call/no show and nobody could come in. I even tried calling another store and nobody there could come in either. I just don't get why people just don't show up. It is annoying.
Wow, when I ran a store, I would have been fired for closing the store so I could leave. I would have just ordered delivery of something I could eat at the cash wrap without making a mess.

Where I am it's not unusual to walk by a couple of smaller stores around 1:30/2 and see a sign "back in 15 minutes" - I assume they're getting lunch? And since it happens regularly I guess it's okay with the owners/managers

I had to call my district manager to clear it. And we are in an outdoor mall. This outdoor mall doesn't get very busy during lunch/day. Most people come in late afternoon. For those of you who don't know, I work in a chocolate shop.

I worked at a video store when I was 19 and I was almost always the only one there. I wouldn't have been allowed to just close up shop for lunch. I brought it with me and ate there or ordered something. I don't think corporate would have liked that!

Could have just eaten the chocolate!
My thoughts exactly. I'd be all "Lunch is served, bitches."

Our stores get fined if we don't clock out for lunch. And if we have to close the store it has to be cleared by the district manager first. This doesn't happen often and if it does, it the smaller stores since we have less people and borrow people from the other stores first and if possible before closing for lunch.
I still don't understand why you felt you had to leave. I was stuck plenty of times with no relief and just sucked it up, that's part of being in charge.
I didn't leave the store, I'm still here. It was DM's decision to close for lunch, not mine. My shop will get fined if I do not clock out for lunch.

I'd never be able to work in a chocolate shop, I'd just eat all the things.
I started working in a chocolate shop about one month after I met my now H. I gained 20 lbs in 2 months (I worked there every weekday after classes and all day on Saturdays, so I had like, no time for meals during the day).
I did get to feed Liv Tyler fudge, though, so it was worth it.
When I worked in retail as an asst. mgr the store got in deep shit if we didn't take our lunches. Closing up for a half hour for lunch probably won't lose you much, if any, business. And the store doesn't get in trouble for not allowing mandated break time.
If her DM didn't care, I don't know why anyone here does.
Exactly.
Lol at everyone up in arms about the horrors of closing a chocolate shop for half an hour so she could eat her lunch. God forbid someone miss out on their chocolate covered strawberries.
I worked for a division of Borders in the mall. My manager was an asshat of the colossal kind. I opened, he didn't show (later found out he was shacking up with one of the other employees in a hotel), I got to about 4pm before I fainted in front of a customer. I get it, I do. You did the right thing.

By fed Liv Tyler, do you mean you put the fudge directly into her mouth? I don't think I would do that for minimum wage.

Sorry for the missing info guys. Also, this isn't the first time she has no call/no showed. This is also the chick that had a meltdown in front of customers the Saturday before Easter. She also called out twice this week already and showed up late yesterday.
