I need help. I am not great at drawing, and thought of something that (I think, anyway) would be a great idea for a shower gift for my FSIL. BUT I kind of want to try to make it. I can get stencil letters, but I need to find a stencil of a bushel basket, or a way to draw one without it looking like complete shit.
When she was younger, her mom (who has since passed away) would always say "I love you a bushel and a peck, and a hug around the neck." And I wanted to get a long piece of stretched canvas, like, a long rectangle, and have the letters falling out of a tipped over bushel basket with that saying.
Am I crazy for even attempting this? Any pointers? Etsy has a lot of signs that say that, but nothing exactly like I am thinking of...
You can make custom paper stencils very easily. Find a photo online you like of a basket, put a sheet of paper up to the screen and trace. Try not to do fine detail since it is your first time, and decide if you are tracing the negative or positive of the shape. Cut accordingly. You may want to transfer it to cardstock--if not, tape the stencil from underneath with double-sided tape when you paint to avoid it moving.
Also, do not worry if the picture you source from is small. You can blow it up at a copy shop, then cut.
I am not a creative/artsy person at all. I like the idea of a stencil and I think you should totally give it a shot. If you get frustrated though I would contact an artist on etsy and see if they can create something for you. I did it for some wedding stuff and found etsy sellers really helpful and easy to work with.

This would probably be a little more expensive and time consuming, but what if you got a small bushel basket, cut in half and attached that to a background and then either screwed or glued or otherwise attached the wooden letters. It would probably be easier and cheaper to have someone from etsy do it like tr suggested though.
