azurely and anyone else (I just noticed your ML post - azurely)
Next week I have a consult with my RE about next steps. I noticed on the monitoring sheet I got last week that my TSH was 2.82. My acupuncturist said it is borderline as they like it to be between 0-3. From googling I have seen that a lot of RE's say optimum TSH is around 2 for ttc.
Do you think I should push my RE on this? What if this has been my issue all along? I am assuming I will have to fight her on it because she has never mentioned anything. What are the solutions to this? And do you know how long the meds take to take effect?
Mine was between 4 and 5 and I asked the RE the same question. He retested, and I was just under 4. He said that TSH levels can vary day to day, and he wouldn't medicate unless it was consistently over 5. He said that it is very hard to stabilize a borderline level, and it's more likely that adding medication would drop TSH to an unhealthy level. I think he might let me try medication after a few failed IUIs and if I really insist on it.
I'm sorry I remember getting my TSH results and thinking - this is IT! A simple pill is all I've been missing. At least for me, the RE does not think it is anything to be concerned about.
jewel - yep wouldn't it be great to just find the magic issue? I'm pretty sure I would still have to do IVF but if it gave me better chances of my ivf working then I am willing to look into it. I'm resigned to not getting pg naturally now.
I'm sorry - I wish I could have shared better experience. Throughout the whole testing process, I was always hoping that something simple would come up, that could be solved with a pill/surgery/shot/whatever. Maybe your doc will treat your thyroid with a super tiny pill? I wonder if there are any natural treatments or supplements that your acupuncturist can recommend?
I remember when we got my husband's first SA back. It had very high levels of white blood cells. My google detective work told me that meant a sure infection, which can kill most of the sperm. I was like - YES! That's what's killing all your sperm! I've never been so excited for a genital infection! A good antibiotic will clear that up and we'll be fine. And secondly, what kind of dirty ass hookers have you been shackin up with that gave you a weiner infection? Turns out, the SA is done by machine, which can't tell the difference between WBCs and dead/immature sperm (confirmed by blood test). No infection, bummer.....LOL.

Jewel - that mades me laugh. On a similar note, dh said last night that he wants to ask the RE if he can book the s/a collection room for a trial run before ivf in case he can't perform. wtf....
My OB/GYN checked my thyroid last May after my 2nd m/c and it was 2.8. He said it was fine, but obviously I trust my RE more. It was 3.16 when she checked it, so mine is just barely elevated.
I have noticed a difference. If you read my other post, you obviously know I have lost weight pretty fast since starting meds. I am also breaking out less, so it seems like it's regulated my hormones somewhat.
I would love it if this is what my problem has been all along, but that just seems too easy...
I was hopeful that was my problem, too. My TSH was 3.5 and my PCP and my gyn both refused to put me on meds, but the RE did immediately. The last few times I've asked about my thyroid when my meds have been adjusted, my RE says that it's not my TSH that's the problem, it's my T3 (I think?). So make sure they are doing all those other tests in addition to TSH because according to my RE that could be more important than TSH.
When my gyn did blood tests when I went to her originally for my MIA period, my TSH was over 4, so she started me on 50mcg of levothyroxine. While my TSH has dropped to "normal" levels I'm still symptomatic and plan on asking my RE to up my dose to see if I can get it closer to 1 (as I'm hanging around 2.2).
I've been told that it can take up to 6 weeks after you get to a correct dose before you can start to feel better. But it's been longer than that for me.
Mine was 2.9 and they wanted it under 2.5, so they started me on meds (25 mg of synthroid). They retested at 4 weeks and it was w/in the range they wanted.
