Ugh- my nerves are bad. My ILs came in town Tuesday and were staying with us for DS's Baptism on Sunday. Tuesday night we all went out to eat and MIL came home and was throwing up all night. We assumed it was food poisoning because she hadn't felt bad otherwise. She went to urgent care yesterday and today was completely fine.
Well, today, SIL started throwing up. FML!!! DS is only 5 weeks old. They just left to go to a hotel, but any damage is done by now. I'm desperately hoping that since I got a flu shot while pregnant that DS will have some protection from that and won't get sick.
On the bright side, my house has never been so clean since we washed, lysoled and bleached everything.
No point to this post I just needed to vent some frustration.

I have good news and bad news for you. Stomach virus is NOT the flu. Influenza, what people get vaccinated against, is a respiratory illness most characterized by fever, body aches, chills, etc. Sometimes kids also get vomiting with the flu, but not usually adults.
What you're describing -- the pukefest that people call the stomach flu -- is just one of a family of viruses and isn't super dangerous except the risk of dehydration.
That said, it still sucks hugely and I am sending you and baby good health vibes!
Ditto PPs--what your MIL and SIL have is almost definitely not influenza, AKA the flu. The flu is a respiratory illness; gastroenteritis or the "stomach flu" is a gastrointestinal illness and is not much less miserable, but is shorter lived and generally less dangerous than the real flu.
Wash your hands a lot, sanitize surfaces in your home (doorknobs etc.), and try not to worry. I came down with the stomach flu when DD was about 3 months old and was petrified she would get it, but she didn't. If you are breastfeeding you may also be able to pass on some immunity to your LO, especially if you get it before he does.
Keep sanitizing everything. DH had the actual flu over Xmas and then a nasty stomach virus a few weeks later. He obviously had contact (pre sickness) with DS and I. Neither of us got sick! There is hope!

Crappity crap-- y'all are right about the flu shot. Wishful thinking I guess. Oh well-- good news is that DS is still fine and the ILs are all feeling better. Thanks for the encouragement!!

Don't quote me on this, but I believe I read somewhere that itty bitty babies don't have the intestinal capability to produce these types of viruses. In any case good luck!
