I'm a lurker but thought I would jump in here. I get them about once a year and hate them. I have a prescription now for Valtrex that works amazing. Before I got that I would take Lysine. You can find it with the vitamins/supplements. It seemed to help. Hope it goes away quickly for you, they are no fun.
Abreva never ever worked for me. I remember my mom telling me NOT to use chapstick because it moistens it and you want to dry it out. campho phenique worked wonders for me when I had a cold sore once a few years ago.

I have a standing Rx for Valtrex, take Lysine daily, keep Abreva in my purse, use SPF 55 on my lips daily, and use tea tree oil to dry the fuckers out.

I have one right now too
I'm SO freaking paranoid about the baby catching it. I'm not kissing him (obviously) but its so hard bc he basically hangs from me 24-7. Hand washing and no touching my mouth!

I fucking HATE cold sores.
I am exactly the same except I haven't tried the tree oil. I had a bad spell the last 3 weeks and I got 2 cold sores. How they happen to still thrive when I do all this, I don't know. I want to quit my job and focus solely on researching for the cure...that is how much I hate cold sores.
I got one from the sun last summer I think. This one, I have no idea why, but probably stress??
It started itching on Friday and blisters formed that night. So its probably too late for anything, right?
They are gross.
With my most recent one, I tried the new Orajel one dose treatment and it seemed to help. In my experience, once blisters form, the cold sore is going to go through its full cycle, but the cycle is shorter and less intense when I am taking the Valtrex and/or in this most recent case using the Orajel. Abreva seems to have a similar effect but I like the Oragel single treatment better so far.
