My laptop had an accident and is no longer charging. My computer is old and I needed to replace it sooner rather than later. I'm now at a crossroads. I was considering a Mac, but at this time it would be hard financially to buy. I could get a nice laptop, for about half. Do you have any advice.
Do you only want a laptop? We have a Mac mini and it was affordable and I like it a lot. I think the computer itself was $500 (it's this little box) and then used keyboards/mouse/monitor we already had and purchased new parts as they came up for sale (non-Mac items). If you go to slickdeals.net and keep and eye on it, the best of the best deals get posted on the forum and your likely find a great computer for a great deal.
If you are a teacher or student, you can get a discount when you purchase online
Or if you know a teacher or student that can get it for you
I got a macbook pro last year but I am a graphic designer and pro photographer and really needed a robust machine. I love Macs and think they're amazing for creative work and totally worth the $! I've had 2 macbook pros so far and an imac. Love the iMac too if you want a less $ machine.

I am a teacher turning pro photographer. I won't be doing graphic design, but I do need a good computer with editing capibilities.

Cool! Perfect. Then you may want to look into getting a macbook pro if you're going to be doing pro photography. Lightroom (or Aperture) can really slow down your machine and mine works really well on last year's MBP.
