Hello! I am hoping you ladies can help me. My husband and I bought our first house over a year ago and I still have not decorated. I just don't know where to start! Our house is a split level with an open floor plan and the living room and kitchen are on the same floor. Our kitchen walls are sage and we have white cabinets. The living room is painted white with one wall that is kind of taupe colored. What kind of color scheme would you go with as far as throw pillows and such? We have beige colored couches, a shaggy cream colored rug and dark laminate flooring. I don't know if I should try to match the sage in the kitchen or if it would look ok to use different colors. Any ideas? Thanks!
Well, what colors do you like? From the post, it sounds like this was the prior owners' choice and not yours. What interests you? Are you on Pinterest? Have you saved inspiration pics to notice the similarities among them?
I have an open floor plan too. To make it look cohesive, you want to visually link the two spaces together. Color is an easy way to do that. You get to pick multiple colors though. Your kitchen is sage and white while your living room is white and taupe. You already have white linking the two spaces. Do you have a favorite piece of artwork? Artwork can be a great way to link spaces. My kitchen is apple green and my living room is sky blue. I have a tropical scene in the kitchen that has a lot of blue in the artwork. I have a painting of flowers in my living room that has a lot of the apple green. We picked the colors from the artwork when we painted these rooms. Green is my favorite color while blue is my husband's favorite color.
Since sage, white and taupe are all fairly neutral, you could pick almost any color as an accent. To make an accent noticeable without being overpowering, use it in three places (for example, pillow, rug and vase) and preferably three textures. What is your favorite color or colors? What are his favorites?

I actually love the paint so I don't really care to change any of that. As far as colors for the living room, I am kind of up for whatever. I like a clean, non-cluttery feel, but that's about it. I am on pinterest but haven't really found anything. I guess my biggest problem is do I try to find a look that flows with the kitchen or would it look ok to do something totally different?
