My mom and I will have one day in Monterey to sight see. Our goals are to: 1. Walk on the sand and see the pretty water. 2. Do touristy stuff like Cannery Row and Fisherman's Wharf. 3. Eat at a local, casual place. 4. Drive along Highway 1 to see the coastline.
We're not into golfing, spas, shopping, fancy restaurants, or stuff like that. We don't want to visit the aquarium.
For lodging, we're hoping to find something a step up from a Motel 6 or Best Western, something with interior doors and hopefully some type of free breakfast. Maybe like a Hilton Garden Inn? We'd love for it to be a block or two away from, or on the roads near Fisherman's Wharf and Cannery Row and the tourist shops. Walking is an issue for my mom, so we'd like to be as close to that as possible.
We're hoping to spend $130 or less for the night. Any recommendations?
Also, how far apart are Cannery Row and Fisherman's Wharf?
We've stayed here twice. It's a Best Western Plus, so nicer than an average BW. It's within walking distance to both areas and the room prices may just barely make your budget, but we paide more both times. Breakfast is included, but it's really just slightly more than continental offerings. It's nice, clean & the service was great.
Sorry. We walked by it, but haven't been inside. The only other hotel I have been in is the Monterey Plaza Hotel (across from the Holiday Inn Express). I think rooms are $200+/night. It is beautiful & right on the water. We haven't stayed there, but were in DH's boss' room & if you could get a deal it would totally be worth the splurge IMO.
I stayed at the Lover's Point Inn, which I think it around $100 a night and really cute and in a perfect location. For dinner, I loved Fandango - if you bring a bottle of wine from the Taste of Monterey wine shop, they don't charge a corkage.
