....because I definitely do not want to go through this again. Moving seriously sucks. So do relocation companies. So does posting from my nook.
We had problems with the packers leaving without packing anything, (they showed up with half as many boxes as was estimated, hadn't alloted enough time, and said that they didn't have enough room to work) and the driver not knowing anything about it or that there were packers coming on moving day, so we had a couple of super stressful days around here.
On Tuesday, we had an interview with a landscape guy, the concrete guy was working on grouting the stone pavers they fixed in the side yard. The trash company came to empty the dumpster (again!), the movers and packers were there, and the car transport guy came to pick up DH's car. Oh! And the guy came to pick up donations for the thrift store.
Honestly, we have/had way too much stuff, and we just weren't as ready as we wated to be. We still aren't. ;p
We have given away crazy amounts of stuff, recycled a ton of stuff, thrown away an embarassing amount of stuff, moved a huge truckload of stuff, and we still have a bunch of junk to deal with here. I think that I managed to keep the movers from taking things we didn' t want to go, but they were so fast. They kept trying to pack my closet, where we were shoving all of the stuff that we didn' t want packed, and they kept tring to take furniture that is staying. Too bad they missed our linen cabinet and some other stuff that DH didn't catch on the final walk through. Oops.
We are actually making our oldest daughter rent a storage unit, and on our way out on Saturday, we are going to stop off at her house to give her one of our matresses, then fill a storage unit with everything she left at our house, a ton of books that she can keep or sell (and keep the money). She also will have a ton of toys that belong to her and her sister...she said that she would sell the ones that they don't want, and split the money between them.
We hired a neighbor who is a contractor to finish the work we didn't have the time or energy to finish. He is going to have his people hang the new cabinet doors, finish the trim work, paint whatever needs painting, and he will even haul away anything we don't have room for in the dumpster. He's bringing in the cleaning crew, window washers and making sure that the house is ready to list in a couple of weeks.
There are a couple of houses in the neighborhood for sale, so we are willing to spend the money to make our house be the most atractive to buyers to get it sold asap.
I think our new house won't be ready for us to move in when we arrive. *sigh*
I was upset at first, but now I think that I could use a break from dealing with boxes of stuff, so it could be a good thing.
We could use some 'finishing the work so that we can leave tomorrow' vibes. We are driving my suv to AZ to see my mom, then they will pick up my car on Monday, and we will fly to FL with the dogs ( in cabin), on Tuesday. Fingers crossed that it all comes together as planned.

Oh I can't even imagine how stressful and busy your days are. But once its done and you are settled you can looks back on Italy think maybe it was soo bad lol
Holw moly - that is too much stuff all at once! You definitely need a break from boxes! If we ever move from our current house, we will need an 18 wheeler to get all my husband's junk/crap/whatever moved! So I am staying put no-matter-what
Good luck with everything! I remember how stressful it was moving, and we only moved 40 minutes away! So I can only imagine moving across the country.
And I agree with Munkii: "You're going to finish everything and not lose your brain. You will have a safe trip. Your house will sell. AND you will LOVE your new house in FL!"
Whew! I'm exhausted and stressed just reading your post.
Moving is always awful, it can only be various degrees of less awful.
Whether this was your intended goal or not, you've made me even more motivated to get into our storage unit today and clean out! I always start cleaning out about 3 months prior, but I've been a little behind the curve this move.
Be as pushy and demanding with the moving and relo companies as you need to be - it's YOUR life - they're just in it for a day.
Good luck on the other end! Hope the other half of the move goes more smoothly!

Hope it gets a little smoother & you love the FL house!
Just when was starting to feel like I had our junk somewhat under control we tried to organize the basement this morning/last night. How do we have so much crap??
Good luck! Moving really does stink. During both of our long distance moves, we had 3 week breaks between when we arrived and when we could move in our stuff. Like you said, it was kind of nice to have a little rest from dealing with packing/unpacking and the endless sea of boxes. I hope the house is fantastic and you settle in smoothly!
