Hi ladies, I hope you don't mind that I am posting here and not on the main board, but I thought more of you would have information about this than on that board.
This cycle, I started taking progesterone after I O'd to help with my LP. I have been taking 200mg capsules orally at night since 3DPO. When the nurse gave me the prescription, she said to take them until AF started or I got pregnant (and if I did get pregnant, then keep taking through first trimester).
I am now 12 DPO. Since I couldn't wait, I tested on both 10 DPO and 11 DPO and both were negative. If AF doesn't start today, I will test again tomorrow. If it's negative tomorrow (which would be 13 DPO), should I quit taking the progesterone? My concern is taking it is what is keeping AF from coming, and not because I am pregnant. If I am not pregnant, I would rather just move on to the next cycle.
I have a call into the nurse hotline, but they also told me to start taking it on CD 15 even though I told them I never ovulate until at least 17 or 18. So I don't hold much faith in their advice.
I'm always one for following your doctor's directions over the advice on those of us on here. We all go to different doctors who often do things different ways, and it seems risky to start taking medical advice from so many people.
Sorry I can't be more helpful. I really do think it's best wait and see what your doctor/nurse line says when they call back.
I've never been put on progesterone so I really don't know. My cycles are wonky and shorten and lengthen randomly. While its OK to ask what other people's situations were, just remember we aren't doctors. lola is right. I wouldn't stop or start meds without consulting my doctor as a final opinion.
Is your only option the hotline? Does your doctor have a nurse that directly works with them, who would know your situation you could ask?
I have never gotten a period until I stopped the progesterone, but my LP was always 16 days and my doctor would have me stop at 14 dpo with a negative test. I've never taken progesterone orally though, I always stick it up you know where. So I'm no help, lol. But I would do what the doctor says. If I were you, I would probably wait a few more days, test again, and then call the doctor.
Progesterone has never kept my period from coming if I wasn't pregnant. And progesterone shouldn't be started until O is confirmed or it can prevent O
Ditto this.
After I did an IUI, my dr had me use progesterone supplements starting the day after IUI. I took them until I got my period or if I got a BFP, I was supposed to keep taking them through the first tri. It never stopped my period from coming.
In case anyone cares...my period started on its own this weekend, so I stopped the progesterone. And I have yet to hear back from the doctor/nurse about my question, which isn't surprising given my experience there thus far. Also, pamela, I wanted to clarify that I didn't start taking it until after O. So I ignored that advice from the doctor.

Sorry this month didn't work out for you. If your doctors are that unresponsive/incorrect (had to throw that one in there for lola), might be time to start looking for a new practice. I really hate medical schools for teaching day 14. I can understand it for high school sex ed, not for doctors whose job it will be to diagnose fertility problems later.

Thanks pamela, I know you have been through a lot so I appreciate that! My plan is one more month of trying the progesterone, and then I have recommendations for REs to contact about scheduling an appointment. So far, I have only discussed with my OB.

My second OB was the one who helped me get my son, my RE didn't help much. But I was referred to him by my sucky first OB. It really does seem to be luck of the draw in finding a good doctor. Good luck!
