about DS1's transition to a new school? He starts next week so I took him up there for their afternoon playground time on Tuesday, then today took him up in the morning for circle time and intended to take him back to his old school after 45 minutes or so.
Well, I hung out with him in his room for a few minutes then stepped out to the office, where I could watch him on camera. After a while when I checked back in with him, he said he wanted to stay for the entire rest of the day and was ok with me leaving. I was amazed.
Now I just have to decide what to do if he asks for his new school tomorrow instead of his last day at the old place. I want to encourage his excitement and the new place said he was welcome to start for real tomorrow, but DH thinks we should make sure he says goodbye to everyone at the old place. Anyone have an opinion?
I'd probably have him go to the old school though I don't have strong feelings one way or the other. I guess it would be nice to have him say goodbye and have some closure. Has he said anything about not want to go back for his last day?
Lurker butting in...how old is he? We are facing the same challenge in two weeks. We are moving and DD is starting a new daycare/preschool. She's been at her current one since she was 5 months old and now she's 4.5 years old and pretty much the same group of kids have stuck around this whole time. We've been trying to prepare her for the change, how fun her new school will be, how she'll meet new friends, blah blah, but I am anticipating the worst. She's already telling me she's scared. Breaking my heart....

He just turned 4 last Saturday.
I was really worried too because he can be really tough to adjust to change, but of course all the times I worry he flies through the issue. It's the simple things that should be no big deal when he all of a sudden decides to act like a 4 year old.

I am so so so so hoping this will be the case with my DD too. She has always been so emotional and sensitive to change so I am setting really low expectations and bracing for the worst. I think once we are through the first week we'll be A-OK but it's just getting through that...
