Breakfast at Two Cats... Then the blueberry pancake place (the pancakes were ok. The syrup was much better). The dog and pony good for a simple dinner. The whale tail too.
We stayed at the Bar Harbor Manor last time we were up there. Clean, nice people, the room was a decent size. Doesn't stand out compared to the other b&b's we stayed in during the trip. The Bar Harbor Inn looked really nice. There is a path around the front that has good views.
Things to do, there is a lot at the park, you can rent bikes to go through the park, kayaking, whale/puffin tours, I think there was a lobster tour (we didn't take)
eta. There was a place on the outer edge of town that did breakfast and a boxed lunch. I'm blanking on names.
We always end up at the Anchor Inn. Once was when we were camping and it was 30 and raining, another a trip when we were only stopping there for the night if the weather was nice. We tried to get a nicer place the second time, but it was a busy weekend. That was a funny trip because once we got in the room we were like "isn't this the place we stayed years ago?" Rooms are clean but out of the 80s with thin sheets.
Definitely plan to get to the top of Cadillac for sunrise. Not sure when you are going, it's a harder sell in May than October with the timing of sunrise. Plan to get there half an hour before. We loved just going around the park. I believe there is a junior ranger program if you start at the visitor center for the kids.
DS was 3 the second time and loved watching the cruise ships in the harbor and other boats. You could also rent bikes to use on the carriage roads. Whale watching or a lobster cruise would be fun too. We didn't have time then, but we've done whale watching out of Boston a lot.
