I read it! It ends sooner than the movie, so my version also included the move version ending as well. It was pretty close to the movie, er, um, the movie was pretty close to it. It has been ages since I read it (omg I just realized over 30 years!!), but I remember the whole what's her face (married Ashley) birthin baby part was much more exciting/tense/riveting in the book than the movie.

The book is 1000x better than the movie; the movie is still awesome but the book just has so much more in it. There are some major parts of the book that never made it into the movie.
(i'll probably be lurking on this board a bit more often; contemplating moving to Germany for a few months next year so I might bombard you girls with tons of questions!)
Not yet, I do enjoy the movie and I'm a big fan of Vivien Leigh as an actress. I may well read it at some point. I've read my fair share of long, sudsy, historical dramas. I do love Clark Gable as Rhett Butler, one of the great actors.
Yes, I've read it twice. It's long, but it reads quickly. I've seen the movie many times (I've lost count, but somewhere around 20 sounds right). I've also have a book on the making of the movie, which is pretty interesting. I think the movie is very well done (casted, costumed, etc), but a probably like the book slightly more at the end of the day. PS-- Oh for sick, sad bonus points, my parents cocker spaniel is named Rhett Butler
