You know, this never even occured to me during the prep, and I just took it normally. BUT as soon as I got home from the colonoscopy I noticed I was bleeding. Of course, I panicked and called the doctor thinking they had cut something. She was nervous at first and then asked if I was on the pill. When I said yes, she said it had probably been flushed from my system and it was because of that. Sure enough, it was gone the next day. I wish they had warned me about that before! So I would take it as scheduled but don't be shocked if that happens. And use a back up method

Is this your first one? It's good that it's first thing in the morning, so you don't have to go so long avoiding your hunger pains after you wake up. I do suggest holding in your morning pee as long as possible until you get there... as a woman they make you take a pregnancy test before the scope no matter what (even if you assure them you are NOT pregnant!), and I wasn't warned my first time and was so dehydrated they had to give me a fluid IV to even get me to give enough urine for the test. The second time, I made sure to hold in that initial morning pee until I got there and just did it the second I signed in, haha!
Yeah, I wasn't sure if all the fluid coming out affected the ability of the pill to work, I just took it anyway.
I had to stop drinking water four hrs prior to my arrival time (5 hours before my procedure).
I did not have to take a pg test.
Geeze, you were lucky!
Yeah, I was not supposed to have anything 4 hours before the procedure, not even a sip of water. That's why I was so dehydrated and had to take an IV to pee the first time they sprung that test on me, since they wouldn't let me drink anything. I really assumed all women had to do that, but it would have been nice if they had let me go without it. Both times they tested me, but at least I knew the second time around that it was going to happen.
yikes. I never even thought about the pill and colonoscopies. I'm so glad this came up here. we use condoms and withdrawal now, but I suspect my GYN will recommend BC b/c we found out I get ovarian cysts when I was in the hospital. great to know for future scopes - I could not handle an oops pregnancy.
