We fly out tomorrow for Minnesota - whoooo hoooo. I'll be missing dh big time, but I CANNOT wait to see my family - very excited I just hope G sleeps tonight, she was a nightmare last night, up every couple of hours, thus I feel like death today and I REALLY need a good night's sleep tonight before that long plane journey!!!

Good morning. I am glad it's Friday and DH has off on Monday so it's a 4-day weekend for us.
I'm actually not too good. My mom called late last night to say my grandfather passed away early Thursday morning US time. My uncle, who is in charge of everything, has scheduled the funeral for Saturday morning, so there is no way I can make it back in time. I'm a bit sad, lonely, and homesick. I'm trying to keep myself occupied so I have baked a cake and I am about to test out a homemade mocha frosting.
Sorry to hear that Dorothy, this is when being an expat is the hardest.
DH comes home tomorrow for a 36 hour leave from the Swiss Army, then he's back on Sunday evening.
We have plans to buy a new car tomorrow and then go out to dinner at an actually good Mexican restaurant (all these Mexican food threads....)! Tonight I'm going out to dinner with a friend at my favorite Thai restaurant, I'm looking forward to pad thai!
I'm sorry Dorothy You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
This weekend we are going to see H's grandfather who just got moved to a retirement home. He cannot speak and I'm not sure how much he understands, so it will probably be a short visit.
Nothing huge going on over here. Still trying to figure out all my travel plans for the next month now that the romantic wedding anniversary trip has turned into a bring-DD-along trip (childcare fell through) and now that I have a work trip just after. And, I still need to book a ticket to see a friend in Copenhagen later in July or just throw up my hands and decide it's too much to organize and sit this opp out.
Traveling should be fun, but I am a bit of a stressed out mess right now.
Happily, I am in editing mode on my last really big project and just have a couple more minor things to translate and turn into editors before being off for the summer. I just have to get through the next three weeks and then I will be hanging out in the French & Spanish Basque country with DH... and DD.
Sorry to hear about your grandfather Dorothy. *hugs*
I'm driving this afternoon to Milwaukee to visit a friend and stay overnight. Then my mom is meeting me Saturday afternoon in Milwaukee. I'm finally getting my eyebrows threaded. Sunday DH has off. Don't think we have anything planned.
Not much going on here today. I still have to work a couple of hours, but am so looking forward to the weekend. Saturday we're attending a surprise birthday party and I have absolutely no plans for Sunday! Hoping for nice weather tho, so I can play in the yard!

Tomorrow we're going on a little trip to a monastery and fortress in the province. It's a fieldtrip organized by DH's work so we just get to climb on the bus and sit back and relax. At night we're going to watch soccer (NL-Denmark). Sunday I think we'll just relax; enjoy doing nothing.

I've been a lot! Threading gets better arch definition then my usual waxing. I'm so excited. I haven't been able to get it done in over a year when I was visiting my family on vacation.
They had it in Zurich but I was nervous to go and the cost was similar to Paris.
I pay $12 but it's still a novelty in Milwaukee. I'm sure I could go into the Middle-Eastern neighborhood next to us here and get it done cheap. But we've been following the lady who does them for the last 7 years! Can you tell I hate change... I only let one person cut my hair and wax too. 10 years with her.
So sorry to hear about your grandfather Dorothy... it's not easy being so far away from family at times like that.
Raining like the Great Floods here - think we'll be ark building at the weekend...
But seriously, not a lot planned but I am off work Monday and Tuesday and going to catch up with my friend who is home from Oz with her family. Also have to go look at a few creches for N on Monday seeing as our childminder is quitting from September. (of 5 in our area - 1 is full, 1 she is too old (at 18mths!!), 1 is kinda crappy so that leaves 2 real possibilities...)

Sorry Dorothy... Hugs.. I am sorry for your loss.
I am having a not so fun Friday. I had to get some blood work done, and the first time they stuck me, no problem. But I had to wait an hour, and do another blood test. This time, I dont know what the women did but it felt like she was ripping out my vein. And instead of taking it out, she moved the needle a bit to see if that would make it better but it didnt. So I was so surprised by the horrible pain that I started crying. Fun!!!
And I was the only idiot pregnant women who left there crying. But it hurt like a bitch. I dont want to know what she did.
Definitely tough to be an expat during these times Dorothy. Hugs!
I'll probably be grading final exams over the weekend & hating the bad weather in London - it's like November here, all cold and rainy. I'm sad that my pedicure from yesterday is getting no air time! I love my hot pink tootsies.

I know exactly how you feel!! When I was pregnant I had the same problem and in fact it took several attempts to get blood and I was about to faint with the pain (the moving the needle around thing doesn't work!!). Went back another day and she had trouble then. Even later in pregnancy I had to have lots of tests (not normal so don't worry) and still issues with my veins...
Drink plenty of fluids and be as warm as you can be and this is supposed to help make veins more accessible...

I'm so sorry, Dorothy. :-(
Tomorrow is a town-wide garage sale that I'm going to try to sell quite a bit of stuff on to finally feel like most of my things are no longer at my parents' house.

Thanks! My veins are horrible. They never want to give blood. I was always told to drink water before going but I was told here that I cant drink before. I think was that I wasnt expecting for it to hurt that much.
