I feel a bit burned out on just watching the news but I don't feel like doing anything productive around the house, so I am working remotely. If I'm not in any of the towns on the list, I can take my dog out for a walk later, right? The weather looks gorgeous and I would love to go out and get some air, but certainly not if it's dangerous. I don't know, today is just so weird.
I just picked up DD from preschool, so I get to avoid news burnout by watching cartoons. Currently we're watching Peep and the Big Wide World. She's going down for a nap soon, at which point I'll do some laundry, paint part of the kitchen, and knit (and watch old episodes of Castle) if I have time.

We're desperately trying to act normal so not to freak out the kids. But this shit is super close so it's hard not to appear anxious. The shooting on Vassar St was about 1 1/2 miles away. Where they lived on Norfolk St. is only 1/4 mile away. The streets are empty and helicopters are circling.

Yeah, we can't stop watching the news either. I want to stop, but it's just so close to where we are. I thought about having a beer, but then I had crazy thoughts about needing to evacuate or something. (Which is so unlikely, but you know. Crazy.) So instead, we just keep flipping from one station to the next. H thought about trying to take the dog out a few minutes ago, but then the helicopters started up again, and we heard sirens, so poocher's got to hold it a little while longer.
Also, there was a dude standing in front of the convenience store across the street a few minutes ago, looking totally bewildered as to why it was closed. Are you kidding me? H and I are convinced someone is going to use the stack of newspapers to break in and get their cigarettes/lottery tix if this isn't over soon.

I just got back from a DAR meeting and am at work. It is kind of surreal down here because everyone is acting like nothing is happening up there. I find it bizarre. I guess RI is RI, though.
