oh no! I can't eat popcorn either. it's technically a whole-grain and very hard to digest - I read that it's one of the top 10 foods to avoid w/ Crohn's (at least if you're having a flare).
I haven't been to the movies since my diagnosis - we used to always get cocktails and popcorn! (wilted)
If it's not the "hard to digest" aspect that bothered you, you may be able to eat it in small doses.
Pre-resection, there was too much inflammation/scar tissue for me to digest any amounts of any type of popcorn but post-resection, I could eat it by the buckets. And I did... I'm sorta back to eating it in small amounts again since things are getting inflammed.
Man, now I want some popcorn.
Movie was just okay? We have Groupon tickets we need to use this week and thought about seeing it. Saw 42 last night, which was great!

aimeedyan, how long after your resection did it take for you to notice telltale signs of inflammation again?
I am 9 weeks post-op and I feel amazing. my doc started me on imuran and we will do remicade as soon as my insurance company stops fighting us, but I feel like I really don't need medication right now. it's confusing because I know my disease is still active but since they cut out so much scar tissue/ulcered tissue I have so much less pain. my anemia is even improving without iron infusions because I'm not bleeding into my intestines anymore!

I hope you get kicked into remission for a long, long time. Most resections jump start remission and people are good for years. Esp when you're on maintenance meds like Imuran.
I did not fare as well... but it's rare. I was out of work for 4 weeks and was having symptoms before I went back to work Because I was starting over and all the scar tissue/inflammation came out, it took awhile before the pain and obstructions returned but I had the mouth sores, joint pain, genital sores within 2 weeks. We did another colonoscopy 8 weeks post-op and there was already major inflammation at one of the incision sites. But the resection gave me a "restart" and patched up the hole leaking into my gut that I didn't know I had so it was still worth the effort. I even went without iron infusions for a year before the damage started to do a number on that, too. And I got to eat gobs and gobs of salad, popcorn, and nuts for a good 2 years!
You need medication for maintenance reasons so you can continue to feel awesome It sucks, but I know (IRL) two other Crohnies that had a resection, went on maintenance meds, and have been in remission for years. One, over 15 years, and the other 8 years.
I'm sorry you're insurance company is being a pain...gotta love them
