With Pumpkin, the only kid we were around was my cousin, but not until he was 2 months old. If the kid can sit still and wants to, I pretty much let anyone "hold" him with adult help.
His then four year old and ten year old sisters held him at visits.
We were visiting some friends with a three week old baby who didn't blink an eye at Carrot holding their baby. She beamed!
My brother & his wife won't let Carrot hold their seven week old baby, and she was pretty hurt last night. I backed their decision, but wonder what averages are.
We didn't have any young kids in our lives so it was never a question. I would have let her hold the boys at 7w (and probably younger)provided she was sitting someplace secure (ie. sitting on the couch vs a kitchen chair.)
I'm pretty laid back too, I let A and Iz hold Apple as long as long as they were sitting on the floor when she first came home at 5 weeks old. It all depends on the kid who wants to hold the baby, if they are impulsive, I help them, but if they are calm, I let them do it themselves.

There weren't any younger kids in our family when E was born, though I think I'd have been cool with them holding as long as they were seated on a couch or the floor and could sit still.
E held my new nephew on the day he was born when we went to see them at the hospital. She sat in an armchair and I placed him on her lap and it was so cute how she sat so very still as to not disturb him while we took pics.
G will likely hold her brothers when she visits in the hospital. Of course this will be completely supervised but I have no qualms whatsoever about this.
We let a 3 almost 4 year old hold both the boys 2 days home from the hospital so they were 5 days old. We just made sure he was sitting on the couch by us or an adult and laid the baby in his lap with our hand behind the boys heads. He did great and after about 45 seconds declared he was all done and we took back the baby. My 7 year old nephew has held the boys and even recently picked up Jacob (who has great head control so I don't need to worry as much about it) from out of his swing and carried him 6 feed to me. We are both really laid back as long as the child wanting to hold them understands they can't jump up with a baby in their lap.
I am actually probably more crazy with little ones wanting to touch the boys in the face.
