I could be way off on the number. I came up with an average per shelf and then multiplied by how many shelves we have, plus a bunch more for skinny paperback kid books. Non-kid books are organized by spine color (this is all DH's doing) with green, blue, gray and some black in the living room built-in shelves and all other colors in bookcases in the basement. Kid books are not organized at all, just stuffed on shelves wherever they fit and usually scattered everywhere (except library books, which amazingly stay pretty well organized in a bin in DD's room). We used to live in a huge old Victorian house, where we had full bookcases in every single room. We had to downsize our collection a LOT to move where we live now.
Most of my reading time is in the evening. A typical evening for me is about an hour of TV, then an hour or so of reading, plus another 30 minutes or so reading in bed.

I know! You all are truly my people.
You should definitely read Outlander! It's amazing. All of the books in the series are slow-starters, though, so be prepared for that. Most people don't really get hooked until I think about 100 pages in, but they usually find that it's well worth it.
On an unrelated note, I am so jealous of Dorothy meeting Archie Manning. Eli is my favorite player.

Oh thank you for mentioning that. Normally I would stop reading by 100 pages if it was boring, but now I know to push through. I think once the next few busy weeks pass I'll start on the first one. Eek. Love a good series!

Best guess - How many books do you own? Between my husband me, around 500. How many of those are ebooks? 30 or so, mostly free ones. That said, I usually have a series book around that is my other book apart from my main book - currently The Dresden Files, but I also have a couple of Stephanie Plum mysteries lying around.
Speaking of ebooks, what's your ratio (re: hardcopy vs. ebook copies you read): I think this is evolving for me. For the year so far ~50% ebooks, 25% audiobooks, 25% hardcopy.
Thank you for adding audiobooks to that list. I completely forgot about them because I've never read/listened to a full one, because I get too distracted and stop paying attention to the story, but I realize that many people do and enjoy books that way.

Also, I was in graduate school for a few years until 2011, so that cut down on my "fun" reads, but meant I read a ton of history and political stuff! Where is your favorite place to read? I like the futon in my den, especially if my husband is watching TV in the other room. I also love to read outside. Excited, because we have a really big balcony for the first time in about 5 years, so I'll probably read out there this summer. MOSTLY I read in bed or on the train to and from work. When you finish reading a book, what do you do? Do you keep it/return to bookcase or do you give it away/donate/sell it? Usually I keep it, but most of my books are library books. Every so often I'll go through and get rid of a dozen or so books I know I won't reread and don't particularly care to keep. I like my books to reflect what I like, so I don't want people to assume I really like some book I think is a dud! Depending, I'll give them to friends or donate them. Books made into movies: love it or hate it? Depends on the book/movie. I think lately they've been getting better. I see film as such a separate medium that I can enjoy both the book and the movie version and acknowledge their differences. I'm digging the trend of making books into miniseries or TV series, though. I think it does more justice to longer books and series. Any books made into movies that you enjoyed? Sure, I like Harry Potter. I like Lord of the Rings. I actually really like the English Patient. I like the Emma Thompson Sense and Sensability more than I like the book. Same with the BBC Price and Prejudice. I like the Bridget Jones movies. What is your favorite book series of all time? I'll be SUPER unique here... Harry Potter. As a kid I had a lot of love for Babysitters Club, Anne of Green Gables and Little House on the Prairie. I'm a Song of Ice and Fire fan, too. Do you prefer books as standalone or as part of a trilogy/series? Lately, standalone. First, you don't have the wait for the next book, which gets annoying when you're talking about George R. R. Martin! Second, I think with the YA trilogies that have come out recently... most of them have been stretched to trilogies for marketing purposes. Usually there's filler, and a really well-written, stand alone book would have been a much better piece of literature.

I agree with this. I have really loved some trilogies/series a lot. However, I have noticed this new trend where trilogies would have fit much better into a single, slightly long book. I think I read where an author was discussing this and apparently publishing companies are more willing to publish trilogies by newer authors, rather than a standalone, because where no one has heard of the author they have found that people are more willing to buy the book if there are others out by the author. Or if they buy book one, they'll buy books two and three to read the whole trilogy. Something about money I'm sure lol.

I find this kind of amusing since so many of the long classic novels were originally published in multiple books or volumes. I wonder if any of the new trilogies that stand the test of time will someday be recombined and people will wonder as they're reading why it's divided into multiple "books."

Probably lol. I love series/trilogies. I like revisiting with the characters, even if I do hate waiting for the next book to come out. I just remember reading somewhere, maybe an author's blog or something, that publishing companies are taking their original works and splitting it into two or three books in order to make money. I don't really understand that though, because then the books usually end with a major cliffhanger or abruptly.
