I'm reading North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell and I like it.
I'm wrapping up listening to To Tame a Highland Warrior by Karen Marie Moning. Total fantasy bodice-buster, LOL. I'm enjoying it, but I'm also still hoping that the things I hear about the series getting better several books in are true. I think KMM was finding her stride as an author with these books. It should be interesting to follow her development as a writer through the series.
QOTW: I do. In college I would eagerly plan my spring break and Christmas vacation reading and order a boxful of books from Amazon weeks in advance. Planning my vacation reading is sometimes half the fun for me. Of course, I always think that I'll be able to read way more than I actually can...
This summer DH and I are going to spend a few days at the beach and I'll be taking my Nook. So far the only specific book that I have planned is Being Kendra. I read her first book by the pool a couple of summers ago and it was actually a fun read, but they're so dumb and trashy that I can only justify it as vacation reading!
I'm just about finished with my re-read of A Memory of Light by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson. I've got Anna Karenina ready to go as soon as I finish (probably tonight).
QOTW: I don't really plan my vacation reading in the way you describe, but on the other hand it's only been in the past couple of years that I've had a "to read" list like I do now (based on internet recommendations). Of course I would make sure to bring enough books to read while on vacation, but I didn't think about it well in advance. Now I plan in the sense that I watch for deals on Kindle books that are on my to read list and then I plan to bring my Kindle on vacation, but of the dozen or so unread books I have on the Kindle at the moment I don't know which one(s) I'll read on my next trip. The one I'm most excited about is 11/22/63 by Stephen King.
I'm still reading The Beggar King (Hangman's Daughter series #3).
QOTW: Do you plan out your vacation reading in advance? Sometimes, not always, especially if I just bring my Kindle and I have several books to choose from.
Will you be vacation-reading anywhere fabulous this summer? This summer, no, but we just got back from 4 nights in Chicago on Sunday. We enjoyed ourselves but the weather sucked so we didn't get to do much outside. We plan to go back though, possibly early fall, or next year.
I'm reading the 3rd Black Dagger Brotherhood book. It always takes me forever to get through them. Don't know why, they're easy enough reading.
I'll be on a cruise at the end of August/beginning of September, and as a slight introvert, I'm stoked to find quiet places to read and get in some "me" time. I have a kindle, so I'll have a variety of books to choose from. Whatever is up next/near the top of my "want to read" queue will probably be read. I don't really save particular books just for vacation. I might skip academic books, but then again, if I'm going to have a lot of reading time, maybe not!
I'm hoping to finish Grace Notes by Bernard MacLaverty this weekend. I've been busy and it's very slow, so I've spent nearly two weeks on it. I want it to be over so that I can read something else! I'm thinking I'll read something really fluffy like The Selection over the weekend to feel better about spending so long on this one. Then I think I'll pick up Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore.
QOTW: I plan before a vacation, but more like a day or two beforehand I'll choose some things to download to the Kindle app and pull a paperback off the shelf for the plane. I actually use relaxed vacations as a chance to read technical books, because I have more energy for it. Normally I'm too worn out to do technical reading during evenings and weekends.
My only definite travel plans for the rest of the year is 3 days in Sardinia next month, but I suspect I'll be touring too much to do a lot of reading.
I am currently reading The Year of Living Biblically by AJ Jacobs. I've been on a streak of books in this vein lately. Next up is When God Talks Back by TM Luhrmann.
I most definitely plan out my vacation reading! Actually, I always plan out my reading. I have a running list that gets added to weekly. I will be reading in the northeast and Canada on a cruise in September (I'm going to pretend that counts as summer, mmkay?). I have no idea where I'll be on my list by then though!
I'm reading Down and Dirty Pictures: Miramax, Sundance, and the Rise of Independent Film by Peter Biskind. It's really interesting, and I'm all for anyone spilling the T on Harvey Weinstein.
QOTW: I like to try to read something about my destination before I go, especially if it's somewhere I haven't been before. And since I get most of my books from the library I sort of finesse my borrowing to time it right so I have something good for my trip.
Nothing huge for this summer since we just did New Zealand and Fiji last month, but a weekend trip somewhere local for my birthday and Laguna Beach for Labor Day.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime. Mark Twain
I'm reading a Maisie Dobbs mystery, Elegy for Eddie, along with The Bluebird Effect: Uncommon Bonds with Common Birds. The bird book is an awkward shape and not at all good for reading in bed, but it's very interesting. I've been a little obsessed with our backyard birds lately.
QOTW: I don't plan very far in advance. I usually just take whatever I have ready to read or have been meaning to read. I do tend to stockpile paperbacks so I can fit more books, and I always like to have a few Agatha Christie books on vacation.

Nothing at the moment. I think I am going to skim some career self-help books this week. I have some in ebook form from the library that are expiring.
I finished reading City of Thieves by David Benioff last night. It was a wartime coming of age story told in first person by the main, male character. It was a gift and I enjoyed it. Apparently David Benioff is a prolific writer with many fans, but I'd never heard of him. I tend towards contemporary fiction by female authors over male so it was refreshing to to read a very male book. I'm keeping it around because I think DH would enjoy it.
I also finished the sixth book of The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher this week. The 2nd and 3rd books were terrible, but I'm glad I stuck with them (because they are my mother's favorite UF series) because Butcher has finally pulled it together. They are UF with a male wizard as the main character.
We don't have any major vacations planned. I usually don't plan ahead for vacation reading, but I do make sure I have several options available.

The Peach Keeper by Sarah Addison Allen. The author was recommended here
QOTW: Previously, my only concern was making sure I had some sort of reading material. Now that I keep a list, it's more planned out. I have a bunch of random Kindle Daily Deals that I bought because they seemed interesting, and the price was right, but that I haven't been dying to read. I figure I'll go through those on vacation, which will be to SF/Sonoma for BIL's wedding; In-n-Out and Mexican food, here I come!

I finished Face Down O'er the Border last night and stayed up way too late starting Death Before Wicket; I'm half way through it already.
QOTW: I kind of half to plan because I still read mainly paper books, so I have to plan what I'm packing, and thats usually harder than planning my wardrobe. This year I'll be taking a Canada/New England cruise late in October. So yes, I think I'll be doing my vacation reading someplace fabulous, but it won't be until the spring.
I am 2/3rd of the way done reading The Night Circus.
QOTW: Since most of our vacations consist of driving 4 hours to MIL's house I just make sure I have one book with me (2 or 3 if we are staying for an extended period of time). I'll try to get some reading done in the car if DS sleeps or is being entertained by his brother and sister. Other then that our next big trip is home to the US to surprise visit my family in July 2014. I will probably bring one or two books with me but doubt I will be able to read much on the plane unless DS sleeps.
The History of Us by Leah Stewart. It's ok so far. Mindless fluff basically, which sometimes I'm in the mood for I actually thought her last one (Husband and Wife) was much more emotionally truthful and compelling, if anyone is interested in her novels.
QOTW: Sometimes I'll try to be good and save a book for vacation but I can't always hold out for that long, lol. Elin Hilderbrand's books are my favorite beach reads, although I think she may be running out of interesting plot lines. This summer we're planning two trips to Cape May, NJ to visit my parents and one to the OBX over the fourth of July.
I'm annoyed because I was close to finishing The Night Circus and then left my Kindle at home yesterday when I went to the airport. So, now I am going to find something new to start in on.
QOTW: I load my Kindle ahead of time because I know I'll have internet at home and I never know what my situation will be on the road. As for if I'm reading anywhere fabulous - this summer we're doing NOLA, Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Jackson Hole, and a few trips to Seattle... but I am mainly excited for the month of September when H and I are going on an African safari (Tanzania and Kenya) followed by 5 nights in the Seychelles and 3 nights in Dubai. With those long plane flights I will be reading a LOT.
Just started the second Game Of Thrones book this weekend and I'm hooked just like the first.
QOTW: I don't really plan out ahead of time books to read on vacations. I just read whatever sounds good from my to read list. I am planning on starting another lighter series of books since ill be finishing up with the Sookie books this month. I always like an easier series to read between everything else.
MDGIRL: Stayed at the Greenwich Hotel in NYC a couple weeks ago. They have a "drawing room" where you can just relax in cozy little seating areas with couches and have a glass of wine. You can only be in there if you have a room there, or you are a celebrity. On one side of us was Charlize Theron, on the other, was Harvey Weinstein. I totally eavesdropped on their conversations as much as I could without looking like a jackass. Lots of ass kissing on HW's part (to Charlize) and he was meeting with someone and they were discussing Disney Junior. Whatever that is.
Not currently reading anything. Exams start next week. I'll probably try to pick something light to read in between study sessions. I just bought The Fault in Our Stars, by John Green yesterday so I'm looking forward to starting my summer break with that.
QOTW: I don't necessarily plan what I'll read, I just try to bring more than enough books to choose from. For example, if I am going to the beach for a week then I'll bring four or five books, plus my Kindle which has plenty to choose from. I don't want to run out of reading material! I usually try to bring at least one book that fits the "theme" of the vacation though, like a book with a beach setting for the beach, lake setting for the lake, etc.
In about three weeks I'll be going to coastal Mississippi for a week to visit my sister and niece. She lives about an hour and a half from New Orleans, LA. We'll be shopping and eating and seeing movies and going to the beach. I'll probably bring at least three books plus my Kindle.
