Sending positive thoughts your way. The compliance concern is assumptive and discriminatory, imvho. I hope that other hospitals see things differently. Good idea on the crafts.
Yes and at 17 he's not even had enough time to show if he is or isn't compliant, he's just a kid. This is heartbreaking:(
Yeah in feeling very real rage over this. It's bullshit and just an excuse. What a bunch of dumb fucks.

I think he's only 15.
I'm so sorry, Squirrelly. I really, really hope things start looking up for you and Forrest.
Where are the lawyers - how does this work? I only have one lawyer in the family and he's environmental law. I feel the same as squirrel, that he's not old enough to be declared a risk.
I work at a children hospital, can i help in any way?

Have you condidered retaining an attorney who practices in mental health field? It seems like he should be protected under state discrimination laws. It might be worth pursuing. Maybe a call to your state bar association?
The concern, in addition to maintaining the regimen of anti-rejection meds, was the possible interaction of the steroids he'd need with his psychoactive medications.
One of my friend's dads was initially denied a transplant because of his hx of depression; his team shopped around and found a hospital willing to consider him. He did really well and lived almost 30 years post transplant to the ripe old age of 83.

I have no advice or experience in this area, but just wanted to send another set of good thoughts your way. You always manage to sound remarkably collected and I'm sure that helps DS.

Oh my GOD. I've been following your heartbreaking story, but don't think I've commented until now.
I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at 18. I have been on antidepressants since I was 14/15 and antipsychotics since the bipolar diagnosis. I have taken my meds every single day for over 6 years. Denying him over med compliance issues is ridiculous. It's possible to be a responsible, medication taking 'crazy person'. Ugh.
I did NOT intend to make this about me, but this is some bullshit right here, and I needed to comment. See if a lawyer will help you out. Seriously.
I am so sorry and angry for you. One of my best friends from college is bipolar and a hospital had no problem TAKING her kidney for a transplant to her dad. Its discrimination flat out but for a person so young, whose brain is still forming, it feels unconscionable.

I don't know how you are remaining so strong. I'm outraged that he even has that diagnosis as a teenager, and then to use it against him for a life-saving procedure. (((hugs)))
