Has anyone done this? Our RE recommended it for a basic genetic screening, so my H and I both got it done last week. We got our results back, and all is well. I'm not a carrier for any genetic conditions they tested for. My H is a carrier for Factor V Leiden (some type of clotting disorder), but this is apparently not a big deal since he only has 1 copy of it and I'm not a carrier for it.
Anyway, if you've had it done, my question is: how much did you pay for the test? The RE told us it would be $99 each, possibly less if insurance covers some of it. I just checked the insurance website though, and they billed us each $1980.44 Mine hasn't processed completely, but H's is showing that we owe a $700 co-pay for just his test...
::breathing into a paper bag::
This can't be correct, right? I am trying not to freak out, but omg! There is something on the Counsyl website about $99 being the most you have to pay (link) if you have commercial insurance, which we both do. I should just wait and let it process completely and just see what bills we get, right?
It wasn't recommended to us, but I would probably wait for the official bill before passing out due to shock. I certainly hope for your sake its just not done processing through your insurance. I would die!
It wasn't recommended for us, but holy crap, that is expensive. I am sure that it will be lower when it processes through your insurance, but I would be anxious until that happens!
I have looked into getting DH tested to see if he is a carrier for cystic fibrosis as his mom, sister, aunt and cousin are carriers and it is ~$800 to have just that one test done. It wouldn't surprise me if your testing really is that expensive. :/
ETA: And I don't think our insurance would cover any of it if we decide to do it.
The RE we went to required a full genetic panel if we were to proceed with donor sperm. The test was around $2k. MH had a genetic panel run to diagnose his chromosomal microdeletions and we paid around $1400 for that after insurance contribution.

We had it done, and were billed $900, but our insurance fully covered it.
I think the $99 thing is one of those weird discount programs. They probably run your insurance first and see what it pays, then apply the discount to get it to $99. Just wait for the official bill from the lab or RE, then contact the RE's office about the $99 pricing if it's more than that. GL.
Thanks awkwardpenguin! That was what I was hoping. We just got our results in the mail today from the RE and I'm amazed at how much they are able to test for with one vial of blood. Technology is amazing.
