Long story short, my friend's 23 y/o daughter was beaten to death by her boyfriend in front of their 3 y/o son. The child was left there with his mother's body and was found outside asking for help. The boyfriend has been wanted for ANOTHER murder (he did a drive by and killed a 6 year old little girl) since last year.
Yesterday we discovered that this animal had actually been in police custody in February in Lansing, MI, but gave a false name and was let go.
The Lansing police are...special...I've seen drug deals down the street from where I live and the police drive by my house constantly yet no one is ever detained.
I remember this story in the news - I don't understand how you can use a fake name. Wouldn't the police KNOW?
ETA: It's scary to know that a murder was in my neck-of-the-woods. I know there are other creepers but to know of one that was for sure here is creepy!
This is so infuriating. My heart just breaks for your friend and those poor children--the 6-year old victim and your friend's grandbaby who no longer has his mother. I reposted on FB hoping that his face will stay in circulation and he's recaptured quickly.
The Lansing police were executing an arrest warrant on a woman. When they went to her home, he was there and police asked him his name. He said, "My name is Jeremy Sanders." The police checked and found out that there was a warrant for a Jeremy Sanders so they arrested him. THEN he says, "Oh wait a minute, I was just joking. My name is Dominique Saxton." The officer checked, Saxton had no warrants. They arrested him for giving false information to the police and then he was RELEASED FROM JAIL.
Wow, that is awful. I am so sorry for everyone involved. I posted the link you have on fb and in a local nestie group I belong to. Hopefully they get and keep him in custody soon.

That is fucking awful. I hope they find his ass again soon.
Lansing police reviewing policies after release of murder suspect
Lansing’s interim police chief said the department is reviewing its policies and procedures after a Saginaw murder suspect convinced an officer he was someone else and was released from custody.
In April, two months after being released from the Lansing Police Department jail, officials say the man shot and killed a 23-year-old Saginaw woman. Michael Duane Lawrence, 24, is still being sought by police. He is charged in connection with the killing of the woman, and also is charged in a 2012 drive-by shooting that killed a 6-year-old Saginaw girl.
On Feb. 24, Lawrence was wanted in connection with the fatal drive-by shooting when a Lansing police officer made contact with a man now believed to be Lawrence while arresting a woman in an unrelated case.
Interim Police Chief Mike Yankowski said Lawrence initially gave the officer a name that when checked in a police database showed outstanding arrest warrants.
The officer was handcuffing Lawrence when he told the officer he had lied about his name and gave a new name, Yankowski said. Yankowski declined to provide the fake names, citing the ongoing investigation.
The officer then arrested Lawrence for furnishing false information to a police officer, a city ordinance violation punishable by up to 90 days in jail. The arrest was reported Tuesday by WJRT-ABC12 in Flint.
Yankowski said the officer attempted to verify the second name using his in-car computer. Photographs as well as the physical description appeared to confirm that the name was correct, he said.
Lawrence spent about 11/2 hours in the department’s lockup before being released on bond.
His fingerprints were not taken because the department’s policy, which Yankowski said mirrors state requirements, is to fingerprint suspects facing charges punishable by 93 days or more in jail.
“We’re going to review our policies and procedures and we’re going to strengthen them if they need to be strengthened,” Yankowski said.
If fingerprints had been taken, they could have been entered into a searchable database to confirm the man’s name.
Yankowski said a department committee is already looking into the issue. On possible solution is to change the department’s policy so that anyone arrested for giving a false name will be required to provide fingerprints.
Police investigated reports Lawrence was in Lansing around April 19. Police found a car associated with him, Yankowski said, but he was not located.
Records show Lawrence was charged Monday in 54A District Court in connection with the Feb. 24 incident of furnishing false information to a police officer.
Law enforcement officials in Saginaw did not return messages Wednesday.
On no, what a shitty situation. My heart hurts for you all and her family. I'll re-post again on my Facebook, in the hopes my friends in northern IN and MI see him and help turn him in.
What a bunch of idiots. I simply cannot believe that there is not already some protocol in place to accurately verify identity of suspects prior to release (uhhh, perhaps fingerprints), especially those who had admitted to giving false information in the first place.
I am CERTAIN that EVERY warranted person/felon/etc. is more than happy to simply VOLUNTEER his/her true identity to any officer who requests it. **sarcasm**
Sounds like Lansing PD needs to tune into a few episodes of COPS.
This is utter BULLSHIT. I don't even know what else to say. It makes me fucking furious that this happened. They HAD him and failed. This is why people take the law into their own hands.

What...the...mother...fuck???
Unfreakingbelieveable.
I hope they catch his ass soon and he's fried after a few years of being beaten and used as somebody's bitch.
(and I'm usually a fairly mild-mannered, non-cursing person.)
My mouth was honestly hanging open when I saw that update on the news! Umm, take a few minutes more and really pay attention cop! This is all terrible!
